Amid a rise in the popularity of generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology, tools that allow users to create content like text, images, and even code, using simple commands or controls are in demand. China-based smartphone manufacturer OnePlus has launched its AI Music Studio, which allows users to compose their own songs ‘within minutes.’

“Since we are having more conversations about tech and music, I wanted to share with you our newest creation – The OnePlus AI Music Studio. It’s where your musical aspirations soar on the wings of cutting-edge technology. Craft your lyrics, seamlessly blend them with AI-generated beats, and witness your creation unfold with a visually captivating music video – all within your grasp,” the company said in a press release on November 17, 2023.

The OnePlus AI Music Studio

You can now share your musical masterpiece with the world, download the creation, and let the social media stage be the platform for your spotlight. You do not have to own a OnePlus device in order to access the service. The new AI music studio from OnePlus is available for both Indian and non-Indian users. The company has announced a competition centered around the tool with rewards for users from specific regions.

The service allows the users to sign up using their email address. Once they are on the platform, they get to decide the genre and ‘mood’ of the music video. You can pick between rap and electronic dance music (EDM); pop is coming soon. You can also select your moods like happy, energetic, romantic, and sad. When OnePlus teased the AI-powered music video creator, people thought that the Chinese smartphone maker was launching a new speaker.

Everyone was pleasantly surprised to find out that the smartphone company had created this amazing AI music studio. Once you have picked the genre and mood of your video, you can then choose from a range of themes for your music video such as cyberpunk, nature, study and work, travel — there’s also a random option, along with an “AI Music Video” option. The website will then ask you to provide a prompt to describe the song. The tool will then generate an audio track and video based on the input you provided.

During our testing, we found that the AI tool produced different tracks when we reused the same options and prompts. The video generated showed an animated representation of a person that slowly turned into different characters. The vertical video (portrait orientation) can either be downloaded or published — choosing the latter will allow the company to share your video creation on the music studio’s home page. You can use the share button to get your friends to get more likes and win prizes.

How To Create A Music Video?

  • Head to aimusicstudio.oneplus.in if you are from India, or aimusicstudio.oneplus.com if you are a non-Indian user.
  • Click on ‘sign-in’ Enter your details requested and enter the OTP shared to your registered mobile number.
  • Click on ‘Create Music’ and choose your preferred genre (rap, hip-hop, EDM; pop coming soon), mood (happy, energetic, romantic, sad) and theme.
  • Click on ‘Proceed.’ Provide a prompt for AI to create your lyrics. It could be anything general from “Under the stars” to something that’s personal to you. 
  • You will get the lyrics in the next 2-3 minutes.
  • Now, create your music along with the video.
  • Experiment with this until you are satisfied with the result. If you wish, you can download the video and/or share it on your social media handles with #oneplusaimusicstudio. 
  • Get your tracks voted to the top and bask in the glory of being featured by OnePlus.

The Contest

To popularise the feature, OnePlus has announced a contest for users from India, Europe and North America, with 100 entries allowed from each region. The deadline to submit entries is 5 pm IST on December 17, 2023. Winners will be picked from the top trending song artists of each region selected by the company and will get coupons to redeem for products on OnePlus’ website.

The Chinese smartphone maker says that users can submit multiple entries, but those that have offensive or inappropriate content, or violate copyright laws, will be disqualified. Entries will be judged based on creativity, originality, attention to detail, and overall artistic merit.
