World Sleep Day Special: Perspectives from Aashi Sahni and Simran Bejwani

Today’s world is a fast-paced one. While managing multiple roles, sleep often takes a backseat amidst the demands of daily life. Ensuring adequate rest can seem like an elusive dream for content creators, who navigate the digital realm with its round-the-clock engagement. This World Sleep Day, we spoke to two prominent content creators, Aashi Sahni and Simran Bejwani, who know the world of content creation like the back of their hands. In our conversation today, these creators highlight the importance of good sleep and share strategies to manage it effectively, even amid hectic schedules and social media obligations.

Understanding the Importance of Sleep

Quality sleep is not merely a luxury but a fundamental necessity for overall well-being. For content creators, whose work hinges on sharp thinking and creative expression, prioritising sleep is paramount to sustaining long-term success and productivity.

For content creators whose life is dominated by social media, it becomes very easy to fall into this black hole. However, maintaining an equilibrium is important. Elaborating on this Simran Bejwani added, “Social media is one of the reasons why people are not getting enough sleep. For some people, it’s the negativity that is not letting them sleep peacefully and for others, it can be a habit of scrolling their phones unnecessarily.

Challenges Faced by Content Creators

Content creators often find themselves immersed in a whirlwind of tasks, from brainstorming ideas to engaging with audiences across multiple platforms. Amidst these challenges, carving out time for sufficient rest can seem daunting, leading to a cycle of sleep deprivation and burnout.

However, following a specific time can help get proper rest. Content Creator Aashi Sahni is particular about her sleep timings. Sharing details, she stated, “My preferred bedtime is 10:30 PM, and I wake up at 5:00 AM.” Research suggests that this is the most ideal time to sleep, and help the body achieve its maximum potential.

Managing Sleep in a Hectic Lifestyle

While the demands of content creation may be relentless, there are several strategies that creators can employ to prioritise sleep without compromising their productivity-

Establish a Consistent Sleep Schedule

Aim to go to bed and wake up simultaneously every day, even on weekends. Consistency reinforces your body’s internal clock, helping you fall asleep more easily and wake up feeling refreshed.

Create a Relaxing Bedtime Hour

Wind down before bed with activities that promote relaxation. Aashi has the sure shot mechanism to sleep where she “limits phone use to 30 minutes before sleeping.” On the other hand, Simran has a sleep care routine that is “followed by cleaning my room, changing clothes, doing skincare, and keeping aside all my electronic stuff before I sleep.”

Optimise Your Sleep Environment

Make your bedroom conducive to sleep by keeping it cool, dark, and quiet. Invest in a comfortable mattress and pillows to enhance comfort and support. Consider using some repetitive things that automatically switch the environment to sleep-friendly. The three things Aashi Sahni needs to sleep are- “My pillow, my blanket and a fan or AC. Even during winters, I keep the fan working because I like the room to be chilly.” This helps her immediately doze off for the day.

Practice A Routine

Incorporate stress-reducing practices into your daily routine, such as mindfulness and meditation. Even wearing make-up can be stressful for the skin and managing it effectively really aids to the quality of sleep. Simran Bejwani promotes relaxation by decluttering. She stated “I think the bedroom environment matters a lot. If you’re in a messy room you might feel heavy-headed. I clean my room and turn on my space lamp before going to bed. I also remove my make-up and complete my skincare.” “I try to jot down important things to do the next day before I sleep and stretch a bit, ” she added.

On World Sleep Day, let us reaffirm the importance of prioritising rest in the lives of content creators and individuals alike. By recognising the significance of quality sleep and implementing proactive measures to manage it amidst the demands both Aashna Sahni and Simran Bejwani foster a healthier relationship with sleep and unlock our full potential as creators and human beings.
