Firstly. we would like to know about your content creation journey – how it began and what were you doing prior to that.

Main school mein tha jab meine videos banana shuru kiya, 12 saal pehle. Main uss ilaake se aata hu jaha har cheez late hi pohochti hai. Internet jab chala rahe the toh mere yaha banned tha. Par maine jaise taise discover ki nai cheezon ko. Ek keeda tha. Maine ek film dekhi thi chota tha tab aur mujhe laga ke ye toh kaafi achi cheez hai yaar, kaafi free ho jaata hai insaan. Toh mujhe figure out karna tha but vaha pe rasta nahi mil paa raha tha.

Tab YouTube aaya tha naya naya toh socha ke videos banate hai. Ek chota sa phone tha, ussi ke zariye maine videos banana shuru kiya. Gharwale bole ki padhai kar varna fail ho jayega. Fir maine ek shart rakhi ke padhai tab karunga jab mujhe acting karne doge. Voh maan gaye toh main Mumbai aaya, acting ki training li. Voh course khatam hua fir main St. Xavier’s College mein Mass Media padha aur saath mein theatre bhi kiya. As an art director kaam kiya ek short film “Moh” mein on Zee5. Kaafi films mein as a production manager bhi kaam kiya. Seekhna tha ke overall kis tareeke se kaam hota hai – chote aur bade level pe.

Fir lockdown ho gaya main vapas ghar aa gaya Jammu. Sab kuch blank tha. Fir maine khudse pucha ke ‘Kya karoge Savun agar zindagi mein kuch nahi ho paaya?’ Toh maine socha kuch kaam shuru karta hu. Main chaku bechta tha uss time pe. Maine apne aap ko saabit karna tha ke tu kuch bhi kar sakta hai aur voh ho gaya.

Mujhe ek dost mila jo videos banata hai usne bola kuch toh banate hai saath mein. Toh vaha se meine vapas videos banana shuru kiya jo chhod diya tha. Fir main Mumbai aaya. Mere ek dost ke help se Versova mein rehne laga. Bas ek room mein baith kar videos banate rehta tha. Jab laga ke vapas ghar chale jaana chahiye, tab meri dost RJ Princy ne mujhe 1 week rukne bola.

Uski vajah se main Khushaal Pawaar ko mila. Voh dono ek video ke liye collab kar rahe the jisme maine bhi acting ki. Ab voh mere dost/bade bhai jaise hai. Unhone support kiya, guide kiya toh grow hua aur ab bas chalte rehna hai.

Why did you choose comedy?

Jab main aur meri mummy Nani ke ghar jaate the Jammu mein tab humein bohot dur tak paidal chalna padta tha. Toh mere Mummy pure raaste mujhe hasaate huye leke chalti thi. Mere Mummy ke side vale sabhi funny, spontaneous comedy kar lete hai kisi bhi cheeez ko lekar. Toh mere andar bhi vahi se comedy aaya hai. Naturally ho jaata hai mere se, aisa force nahi karna padta ya funny banna nahi padta hai.

If someone wants to get into content creation, what advice would you give them?

[Videos] Banao. Ruko mat. Daro mat. Copy karna hai toh karo but banao. Kyun ki ek process hai ye. Aap videos banate raho taake camera ko aap pyaar karo aur camera aapko pyaar kare. Jab voh ho jayega fir aap apne andar ke cheezon ko explore karna chalu kar doge. Banana shuru karna padega. Rukna nahi hai.

Who have been your sources of inspiration?

Jo bhi video maine dekhi aur mujhe achi lagi voh meri inspiration rahi hai. Aisa nahi hai ke uske numbers bade hai chote hai toh pasand hai. Jo bhi mehnat kar raha hai voh inspiring hai. Ye magic har koi nai kar paata hai, sab try karte hai but nahi ho paata hai. Toh ye magic hi aisa hai ke jisne bhi kar diya – kuch alag ya naya – mujhe lagta hai wow! Aur mujhe bhi ye magic karna hai. Toh main ussi mein believe karta hu.

Who would be on your favourite content creators list?

RJ Princy Parekh (@princymirchilove)
Khushaal Pawaar
Hamza
Bigg Nerds

Can you share any funny story/incident from any of your shoots?

Ek baari hum Sion Fort mein shoot kar rahe the, mere dost bhi saath the. Hamare paas camera tha. Fir police aayi aur hume pakad ke le gayi. Hamare bag ke andar hi camera tha. Police ne pucha ‘kya kar rahe the, shoot kar rahe the?’ Humne ne kaha nahi. Unhone kaha camera kaha hai toh meine bola ye lo bag check kar lo. Toh Police ne bola ‘nahi, theek hai jao.’ Mera dost puchta hai ‘ye bag mein camera hai kya?’ Maine bola haan, toh kehta hai ‘pagal ho kya? Kya kar rahe ho voh check kar leta!’ Maine kaha ki main bola hi itne confidence se ki voh check karta hi nahi kabhi!

What do you feel are the hurdles in a creator’s journey?

Kabhi shoot karne jaate hai toh log puchte hai ‘kyun kar rahe ho?’ Yahan pe ye hai ki log ek dusre ko support nahi kar rahe aur complaint karte hai ki voh log ameer hote jaa rahe hai. Yaar tum jo tumhara aas paas ke log hai unko toh badhao. Haan kuch log hote hai jo badtameezi karne lagte hai, aapko problem create kar rahe hai ya kisi ki privacy invade kar rahe hai – voh sab galat hai. But agar aap chup-chap kisi jagah pe shoot kar rahe ho, toh support karna chahiye logon ko. Jo mehnat kar rahe hai unko aage badhao.

Do you follow any themes while making your content?

Maine ek barber vali video banayi thi jo sabse pehle viral gayi thi. Voh ek problem hai jo main khud face karta hu. Main jabhi baal kaatne jata hu, tab bol hi nahi paata ke ‘please ache se kaato.’ Ussi thought pe maine video banaya toh voh acha chala. Fir uske baad maine ‘Mummy-Technology’ vale series nikaali jisme Mummy spelling mistake karti thi aur kuch bhi likhti thi jo kaafi funny lagta tha. Jab Mummy se text karte time maine ye notice kiya tab mujhe ye kaafi interesting laga. Toh main uske hi jokes banane laga alag alag tareekon se shoot karne laga. Logon ko kya chahiye? Ke they get to know the real you. Toh main apne life main jo stories hongi unko leke aunga, apne tareeke se dramatise karke.

How do you overcome creator’s block while ideating for your content?

Bas doston se, gharwalon se milo, baat karo. Sadko pe ghumo, logon se baat karo. Aapko kisi ki kahani se kuch mil jayega. Jo bhi karna hai mast karo, uske baare mein zyada socho mat. Full mazze karo. Har jagah pe content hai, stories hai toh vahi stories aapko uthani hai aur logon tak pohochani hai apne style mein. Apna style hi sabse zyaada important hai.

Describe your content style in 3 words.

Pagal.
Mastikhor.
Aur darta nahi kisi se.

Has content creation taken over your passion for acting now?

Nahi. Content creation bhi toh acting hi hai. Kuch log mimicry karte hai, kuch accent pakadte hai, voh sab acting hai. Agar aap voh nahi kar rahe ho toh iska matlab ye nahi hai ke aap acting nahi kar rahe ho. Agar ek emotion aap deliver ka paa rahe ho logon tak toh voh acting hi hai. Mera ye sapna hai ki main aane vale time mein bade bade filmein banao, theatre pe, OTT pe release ho khud ki banayi hui filmein. Main bahar ke angrez heros ko yaha bulaake unse Hindi bulwaou apne videos aur films mein. Ye jald hi main pura karunga.

What is your next goal?

Mereko ye hai ke jo bhi uparvala de raha hai mujhe, vohi best karna hai. Main roz try kar raha hu, roz uthta hu, fail hota hu, firse try karta hu. Har din kaam se jaa raha hu toh as a failure jaa raha hu but har din uth bhi as a challenger raha hu – ke mujhe toh todna hai. Ho nahi ho, important nahi hai bas karna hai. Mujhe bas apna kaam ache se karna hai aur jo cheezen hai voh mere paas khud chal ke aayengi.

Mujhe apni films banani hai. Jis journey aur jagah se main aaya hu, vaha ki kahaniyan sunani hai logon ko. Obviously koi achi opportinity aayegi toh uspe kaam karenge hi karenge. Mana toh nahi karenge kisi cheez ko.

We had such a heartwarming conversation with Savun. This interview opened up our minds to a different way of looking at comedy content creation. Having fun in what you do and giving it your all is the key takeaway for us from this exclusive interview and we see this inspiring trait reflect in Savun Kaul’s content too. Thank you for choosing to make us laugh every day, Savun! We look forward to seeing bigger things come your way 🙂
