Being from Delhi, Ananya Panday navigates to fit in the Mumbai atmosphere and what best is it to start it with food! Welcoming her, Karan Sonawane a.k.a Focusedindian, took her to eat the must-have delicacy if you are new in Mumbai, Vada Pav, and the correct way to eat it! A dream starts to become a true Mumbaikar.
As Ananya takes her first bite into the lively life of a Mumbaikar, she goes house hunting with the delulu queen Apoorva Makhija, famously known as Rebel Kid. Ananya demands a super aesthetic, is well-furnished, super spacious, and can be able to stargaze all night long, but you know how Mumbai works, “yeh bohot jyada delulu hai,” says Apoorva. (no 🧢)
To give a reality check to Ananya, Apoorva sits her down and gives her four tips. First is to pray to God because finding a house in this economy is impossible. Second, have great broker contacts for suitable homes. Third, and the most common advice: “bohot sara jhoot bolna,” because the secret sauce to living in Mumbai is to hide your original identity (being single); otherwise, you’ll have nowhere to go.
Last but not least, always negotiate the rent with your landlord. Houses here are as similar as bathrooms, and we felt it hard.
Mumbai is not for beginners. And Bae definitely has a lot to learn. But not to worry when the supreme Mumbaiker is here: Viraj Ghelani! He gave Bae a crash course on the city and is now taking her viva test. From knowing what a rasta and 3 BHK bathroom here look like to learning what to call a train and how to call a fellow Mumbaikar, Ananya a.k.a. Bae learns it all. After all, she knows Mumbai ka raja is Rohit Sharma! Viraj welcomes here to Mumbai.
Starting on a funny note, Sakshi introduces Ananya just as she is about to head to a fashion show. However, it turns out to be just a coffee date to spill some tea (quite ironic!). Sakshi then asks Ananya what outfit she would choose for brunch with friends. Ananya responds, “I would wear a flowy, floral gown that would be really cute.” *giving her a side-eye*, Sakshi suggests that Ananya might want to opt for a co-ord set because of the Mumbai weather and the hustle and bustle of the city.
Next, Sakshi tries again by asking what Ananya would wear to a club, and once again, Ananya suggests a co-ord set, which might seem odd but can be acceptable. One more question leads her to realize that a co-ord set is indeed ideal for day-to-day life in Mumbai.
Ananya moves on to the next step, she learns the day-to-day chores of soon-to-be big-screen actor RJ Mahvash. In one instance, the girls visit a vegetable market, where Ananya misreads the situation and exclaims, “Aap janti nahi ho, mera baap kon hai” (a typical Delhite attitude). However, Mahvash enters the chat and explains that such phrases are not appropriate to use in Mumbai. She also emphasizes that when travelling on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, making a video is a must! (peak Mumbaikar)
The “How to Be a True Mumbaikar” series comes to an end, Ananya engages in a lighthearted conversation with Indian comic Urooj Ashfaq. During their chat, Ananya reveals that she is a “snake lover,” leaving everyone stunned! Harry Potter fans will enjoy her reference to Slytherin in connection with her passion for snakes. “I am fully Slytherin, and I won’t settle for anything else. My favorite Harry Potter character is Sirius Black, played by Gary Oldman,” she says.
Call Me Bae is ending on a meme-tastic note! From hilarious one-liners to iconic fashion moments, the show has gifted us meme-worthy content that’ll live on long after the credits roll. Whether you’re team Bae or just here for the laughs, this series is giving us all the relatable, shareable gold we need.
While Call Me Bae Season 1’s marketing campaigns nailed it, blending fashion & humour in a way that had us all hooked, Season 2 is already building up the excitement! We’re hyped to see what the creators will bring to the table this time around – bigger campaigns, bolder collaborations, and fresh, fun takes on Bae’s journey. Buckle up, because Season 2 is going to be too much fun!
