Celebrating World Kindness Day With Hamza Syed ‘The Green Flag Guy’

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” – Aesop

Too often we underestimate the power of a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring. All of this has the potential to turn a life around. World Kindness Day is observed on November 13th each year. It acts as an important reminder of the power and impact of kindness. In the digital era where anonymous hate prevails a lot, embracing compassion and goodwill will always be welcome.

In today’s intricate world, choosing kindness is not just a virtue but a powerful way forward. Don’t be ‘sad,’ watch Hamza ‘Syed’ 😉 Through relatable videos, he invites his audience to rethink what it means to be a good partner, friend, and family member. Hamza’s work reminds us of the power of small acts of empathy and the importance of striving to be better for those around us. This World Kindness Day, we spoke to Hamza Syed on all things kindness and social media. Read on to know more.

Your content often reflects kindness, respect, and empathy in relationships and daily life. What inspired you to start creating content that showcases these ‘green flag’ behaviours?

Being a content creator was never planned. In fact, YouTube and Instagram were merely platforms where I could showcase my acting skills. I was simply trying to play different characters from different walks of life and mostly it was a reflection of how I see or wish to see the world around me. And that’s when the content started getting appreciation from all around.

Your videos cover areas like “Behaviour that hurts our parents” and “Signs of an unavailable partner,” shedding light on ways to foster healthier relationships. What has been the impact of your videos on your audience?

I feel the comment section of my videos and my DM’s would answer this question more appropriately. But if I had to answer I would say I often have kids and boys walk up to me and say things like “I am trying to be the green flag that you showcase in your videos” and “Every time I have a bad day, I binge-watch your videos and they give me hope and make me feel better”. Of course, there is a set of audience which has a very polarising view in accordance with my content but then that’s what makes us humans.

Reaching 700K followers is an incredible milestone, especially in a niche centered on positive behaviour and personal growth. How has this journey of building such a large audience influenced your content and your personal perspective?

Lately, I have been very mindful of what I create given that 7 lakh plus eyeballs are watching me every day. With those numbers, you don’t wish to mislead anyone. This entire process of creating and reaching where I am today has had a very transformative effect on me, professionally as well as personally. Like when I create videos of how I wish the world to be, I am also at the same time looking at all those things I am probably not to my parents, siblings or friends. So it definitely helps me become a better version of myself.

We’re celebrating World Kindness Day today. What does kindness mean to you, especially as a content creator who influences so many? Are there particular acts of kindness—big or small—that you consciously try to incorporate into your content or interactions with your followers?

Kindness to me is the most important pillar among the pillars which make one a good human being. In a world where it is the easiest to not care, ignore or be selfish, choosing to be kind is the best thing one can do for their own soul.

To consciously incorporate acts of kindness in my interactions, I simply try to listen wholely. I am a very active listener so it comes quite easily to me. But people out there are craving to have a wholesome conversation or speak their hearts out. Everyone is connected via the internet but our souls are disconnected, hence the loneliness. So I simply try to listen and if required give my input when someone interacts. Because trust me half our problems only exist because we do not voice it out. And why do we not voice it out? Because we do not have anyone to voice it out to.

Your videos portray both relatable and idealistic scenarios. How do you strike a balance between showing both and encouraging people to strive to be the best versions of themselves?

It’s quite simple – ‘relatable‘ is basically what I already am or have experienced, and ‘idealistic‘ is the area I lack in or where I am a work in progress. So every time I have to make a video portraying either of the scenarios, I just look back upon my life. It also majorly depends on how I am feeling on that particular day.

Anushka Sharma recently began following you! What was that feeling like?

UNBELIEVABLE is the word for it! To be honest. I am still in disbelief, I keep on going back to her profile and checking if she is still following me. I feel it will take some time to settle in. But what it did to me personally was, it boosted my morale and gave me enough validation which blurs out all the hate on the internet for me. I just hope Virat bhaiya too is watching my videos with her.

According to you, how can one be kind without being taken for granted in 2025?

One needs to be in touch with their own self in order to achieve this. That will allow you to know the lengths you can go to help someone out without being taken for granted.

Talking to Hamza makes us realise that every day can be World Kindness Day if you like. This day reminds us that amidst the complexities, the simplicity of kindness remains a beacon of hope. Extending a hand during hardships is not just a gesture; it’s a collective step toward creating a brighter and more harmonious world for all.
