Indian Gen Zs Are Now Turning Into YouTube Content Creators

A new wave of YouTube trends is dominating the platform with Indian Gen Zs now going from passive viewers to dynamic creators. These are the youngsters altering the course of what it means to be a content creator, as they go from expert fan theories to engaging in eye-catching art.

They don’t just watch content; they make it, and grow communities around it, all in their unique place within the digital entertainment universe. Today, Gen Z fans of creators and YouTube channels engage in more than just watching videos; they create memes, organize watchalongs, produce fan art, and discuss content with others through podcasts.

Released on July 30, a recent survey was conducted by YouTube & SmithGeiger, above 91% of users on YouTube aged 14 to 24 (generally identified as fans) have started participating in fan-related activities in the previous 12 months.

The survey report also highlights how fandom on the video streaming platform has grown over the years. It shows that fan communities have a potentially significant impact on swinging trends and the entertainment industry.

The report also offers key insights into the behaviour of Gen Z users on YouTube. For example, 87% of these users consider themselves fans of specific creators or topics on the platform.

Additionally, Gen Z fans are highly engaged with content; over 93% watch videos from their favourite creators or subjects almost every week. Furthermore, 62% of Gen Z users on YouTube reported that they don’t personally know anyone else in the fan groups they belong to!

The Fan Favourite Content

What kind of content attracts fans on YouTube? According to the company’s observations, content related to niche topics like miniature art, chess, and surprisingly Indian Railways have successfully cultivated dedicated fan communities.

Moreover, videos of UPSC mock interviews, like the content found on the YouTube channel ‘@PleaseSitDown’ run by Indian YouTuber Vijender Masijeevi, have pulled a considerable amount of fans as well.

Who Is Vijendra Masijeevi?

The YouTube survey report highlights Vijender Masijeevi, a.k.a. Vijender Singh Chauhan, an Indian educator, social media influencer, and motivational speaker. He is widely recognized for his work as a mock interview panel member at Drishti IAS Coaching Institute.

Masijeevi has a strong background in communication, teaching, and personality evaluation, making him a sought-after figure in the academic & motivational speaking spheres.

Furthermore, the survey report read, “His [Masijeevi] channel focuses on current affairs topics, interviews, and career motivation, fueling a community of over 500K aspirants. They may have never met, but the camaraderie in the channel’s comment section brings them together.

What YouTube Offers

Director of YouTube India Ishan Chatterjee added, “We believe that passionate fans should be able to support their favourite creators directly and that’s why we offer multiple ways for creators to earn through fan-funded features like Super Chats, Super Stickers, Channel Memberships, and Merchandise. We’ll continue investing in features like Posts, vertical live streams, and multi-language audio, to help creators connect with their audiences on a deeper level, no matter where they are in the world.
