Inside Twitter’s New Verification Policy

Twitter has finally put an end to the “can you verify me” DMs and Tweets by rolling out its new verification policy. Twitter has officially confirmed that users can now submit their applications for verification right from the in-app account settings!

To qualify for the blue badge (blue tick), the account must be:

  • Authentic
  • Notable
  • Active

And should be among the following 6 eligible categories:

  • Government
  • Companies, brands and organizations
  • News organizations and journalists
  • Entertainment
  • Sports and gaming
  • Activity, organizers, and other influential individuals.

In addition to this, the account should be complete and has to be active too!
Upon opening the settings. Users need to follow these 3 steps:

  • Choose the eligible category for their account.
  • Choose how they’d like Twitter to confirm their identity.
  • Submit the request and wait for the decision.

Twitter has also specified accounts that are not eligible:

  • Parody, newsfeed, commentary, & unofficial fan accounts.
  • Pets & fictional characters.
  • Accounts associated with coordinated harmful activity/hateful content.
  • Accounts that have violated Twitter’s Platform manipulation & spam policy.

The new verification policy is a breather in comparison to the former one. With this feature officially rolling out we shall finally bid goodbye to the famous “can you verify me” tweets.
