Popular for sending disappearing snaps to friends, social media platform Snapchat is adding new generative AI features, including AI-generated Snaps, an AI-powered extend tool, and more. These new features are gradually rolling out for Snapchat+ subscribers globally. Over 7 million Snapchatters have joined Snapchat+, a subscription tier that offers access to the latest features which help customize their app experience, get creative, and have even more fun with friends.
In a blog post on its official website, Snap said that Snapchat Plus users can tap on the AI icon on the toolbar on the right side of the screen to open Snapchat’s image generator interface where the user can type in prompts or choose preset options to generate an image. The AI-generated image can then be edited and shared just like a regular snap.
There are already so many ways for Snapchat+ members to express themselves with AI, whether they’re creating an original Generative AI Bitmoji Background or Chat Wallpaper, transforming themselves in imaginative ways with Dreams, or learning about the world through conversation with My AI. Now, Snapchat is offering subscribers even more ways to create, edit, and capture images that inspire continued connection through visual conversation.
The company introduced the AI-powered extend tool that broadens the picture and fills the background space using AI, making the subject of the photo appear farther away from the camera. It can be accessed through the toolbar by tapping on the ‘Crop’ icon and selecting the new ‘Extend’ button at the bottom of the screen.
Snapchat has added more ways of using this feature that helps generate imaginative AI selfies with friends. The company has announced that Snapchat+ subscribers will get one free pack of eight Dreams a month.
Over two months ago Snapchat began rolling out My AI, an AI-powered chatbot, to its global community of more than 750 million monthly Snapchatters. Today, over 150 million people have sent over 10 billion messages to My AI, making it among the largest consumer chatbots available currently.
“We have been inspired by the ways our community has adopted conversational AI, with millions using My AI to foster creativity and connection with friends, receive real-world recommendations, and learn more about their interests and favourite subjects,” said Snap in its blog. They further shared some of the most popular conversation topics, based on learnings from their community in the US, India, France, and Great Britain.
From writing poems about your closest friend to finding activities to do with family, My AI always has a recommendation to share.
My AI is becoming a go-to source for real-world recommendations, from travel to personal shopping, and more.
Snapchat believes that conversations with My AI have the potential to help deliver more relevant content and experiences across Snapchat, and they will continue to innovate in this area to improve the experience offered to their community.
