Snapchat introduced new custom Stickers and three Augmented Reality (AR) Lenses to honour International Week of the Deaf. Created with the thorough guidance and feedback from Snap’s Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing employees, these creative tools were designed to encourage Snapchatters to fingerspell. Snap Newsroom announced this new feature on September 21, 2021.
Snap Newsroom stated, “Using SignAll’s AI and computer vision technology that recognizes and translates American Sign Language language, these AR Lenses will inspire Snapchatters to fingerspell their name, as well as other common words like ‘love,’ ‘hug,’ and ‘smile’.”
From sharing learning experiences with friends to spread more awareness using Bitmoji Stickers, you can do it all through Snapchat’s new features. Along with the “ILY” Sticker, the new lenses are Randomizer Fingerspeller, Random Words Fingerspeller, Fingerspell Name, Fingerspelling Randomizer Lens.
“Our North Star is building products that are fully inclusive of all Snapchatters. No matter where you live, what your background is, what you look like, or how you communicate, we want all members of our community to feel as though our products are made for them — and that includes native signers. We look forward to learning more from our community as we strive to continuously improve the experience for everyone on Snapchat”, expresses Snap Newsroom.
