Instagram’s latest update enables product tagging

The American photo-sharing social media application Instagram has more updates than any other application. Some app updates are loved by users while others get trolled. But this does not stop the app from experimenting. When you keep scrolling through the never-ending reels and stories on Instagram, time just flies. It’s the same story for people of all ages and not just Gen Z.

With innovations and updates that keep one engrossed, Meta’s photo-sharing app has grown rapidly. Regular Instagram updates ensure that no moment is left uncaptured from timely stories, and news to updates of people; it keeps you informed.

With the introduction and rise of reels, the app has definitely gained more attention over the last few years. Instagram has impacted our social media experience overall with the introduction of new features and one of the main reasons for that is its user-friendly setup.

Four months in, Instagram already has impactful updates like enhanced tagging for creators, remixing videos of other pages/creators, and planning ‘Your activity’. Insta has enabled users to directly like stories without sending a DM. This means that you can ‘like’ an image or video shared as a story and it won’t appear in the DM like a reaction. Creating reels right out of the story is also a feature that got launched this year along with auto-generated captions for videos and reels.

There is another update just launched this month by Instagram. They are now allowing the users to tag the products in the images, videos, and reels. While the update when launched was only for creators and brands, the company made an announcement launching it for other users as well.

In an official blog, Liz Kim,  Product Marketing, Consumer Shopping at Instagram stated, “Today, we’re expanding the ability to add product tags in Feed posts to everyone in the U.S. Creators and brands have been sharing how they use and style their favorite products on Instagram and inspiring their communities. Now we’re giving access to everyone to inspire those closest to them by enabling product tagging in posts. From supporting brands, you love to help your friends and family discover new products they may like, sharing products on Instagram just got easier.”

An example of how product tagging is going to look can be seen in a reel recently posted by the actress Deepika Padukone in a collaboration with Levi’s.

Here’s How you can add Product Tags on Instagram

When creating a post, use the tagging feature to tag a brand and then specify a product. When someone taps on your product tag on your published post, they’ll be able to get detailed information about the product through a product detail page on Instagram and then can purchase the product directly in-app or through the brand’s product detail page.

The feature is only available for public accounts and it is yet to be launched globally. They have also notified that this feature will be made available on stories as well.

Instagram is also testing new features like adding QR Code sharing and replying through images on stories.
