The Tesla fleet’s quirky functionalities, from car sounds resembling those from the Jetsons to the infamous “fart mode,” highlight Musk’s inclination for whimsy in innovation.
Grok promises to continue this trend by offering a refreshing take on AI interaction. Its potential to lighten moods during travel or idle moments might be a welcomed reprieve in a world weighed down by negative news and tension.
Despite its promise, Grok isn’t without its caveats. The necessity of an X Premium membership at a monthly cost of $16 might be a hurdle for many potential users. Comparatively, services like ChatGPT offer more substance for a slightly higher price.
The source of Grok’s knowledge, primarily derived from X (previously Twitter), raises serious concerns. Musk’s decision to minimise moderation on X has resulted in compromised accuracy and quality of information. This poses a risk, especially when Grok draws from unfiltered and potentially hostile or inappropriate content. Such data could jeopardise the AI’s reliability and lead to erroneous or harmful outputs, a far cry from the accuracy and honesty expected from an AI.
While Musk had previously advocated for an AI pause due to its perceived danger, Grok appears to tread into the very territory he cautioned against. Training an AI on a platform like Twitter, notorious for its inaccuracies and dishonesty, could pave the way for detrimental outcomes. The AI might propagate false or misleading information, influencing decisions and even contaminating other training sets, potentially resulting in flawed AI across the board.

Grok’s reliance on a platform fraught with misinformation and hostility raises serious red flags. Interacting with an AI that pulls data from unfiltered sources, potentially exposing users to inappropriate content or misconstrued information, poses a significant threat in professional and personal spheres.
As much as Grok embodies the need for light-heartedness in technology, it also epitomises the potential hazards of AI trained on volatile and questionable data sources.
