Madhavan's new role involves the responsibility of shaping the future of India's premier film and television institute.
R Madhavan has been appointed as the President of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Society and Chairperson of the Governing Council.
This appointment comes after the tenure of the former president, director Shekhar Kapur, ended on 3 March, 2023.
The decision to appoint Madhavan was officially communicated by the Ministry to FTII registrar Sayyid Rabeehashmi.
The Ministry nominates members when appointing the institute's chairperson, but this tradition was not followed when Anupam Kher was appointed in 2017.
In Madhavan's case, it appears that other nominations have not been made, following a similar pattern as Anupam Kher's appointment.
A quorum of 24 members is required (12 ex-officio members, a Governing Council, an Academic Council, and a Standing Finance Committee).
The formed quorum will make key decisions regarding the institute's administration, academics, and finances.
