Lets learn about their past history and how they're connected with each other. ChatGPT is owned by a company named OpenAI which was founded by Sam Altman.
Musk was one of the co-founders of OpenAI when the company was established back in 2015. However, in 2018, Musk had left the company and let go of all his stake in it.
Musk left due to conflicting AI interests with Tesla and SpaceX, while others say he departed to lead OpenAI on his own terms, which was denied.
Sam Altman openly discussed Musk's departure from OpenAI, describing it as a 'difficult' moment, during a conversation with The New Yorker.
Altman mentioned that Musk's departure was challenging, requiring him to reorient his life & time to secure sufficient funding for the company.
"Elon desperately wants the world to be saved. But only if he can be the one to save it," Altman added.
Eventually, Microsoft invested billions of dollars in OpenAI and the partnership continues running strong even today.
The exact amount that Musk invested in OpenAI isn't known. However, in a tweet in March this year, he said that he invested around 100 million in the company.
ChatGPT has advanced quite a lot since its 2022 launch. Sam Altman has repeatedly highlighted potential risks without proper regulation.
