Dipa Karmakar is an Indian artistic gymnast who became the first Indian female gymnast to qualify for the Olympics and have created history by winning gold medal at Asian Championship 2024.
She began her training in gymnastics at the age of 6.
She began her athletic journey in the year 2016, in Olympics.
On May 25, 2024 she won a gold medal, becoming the first Indian gymnast to secure a continental title at the Asian Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
She scored an identical 13.566 in both attempts in the final, outpacing North Korean competitors Kim Son Hyang and Jo Kyong Byol.
Previously, she narrowly missed a medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, finishing fourth, adding context to her current triumph.
Dipa's victory is significant as she overcame injuries, two knee surgeries, and a 21-month doping suspension.
