Lil Tay's death was allegedly faked on Wednesday (9th August) when a post appeared on her account saying she had passed away at the age of 14.
Lil Tay, whose real name is Claire Eileen Qi Hope, was born in 2009 in Canada. She was only 9 years old at the time she started posting.
In early 2018, she started posting videos on Instagram and YouTube, flaunting luxury cars and clothing, and claiming to be a millionaire.
She gained notoriety for her audacious behaviour, which included using foul language and making derogatory comments at a very young age.
Her videos quickly went viral due to the shock factor, drawing attention from the media and sparking debates about her appropriateness as a child.
Lil Tay engaged in online feuds with other internet personalities, notably Bhad Bhabie and Woah Vicky, further fueling her online presence.
Many viewers and media outlets questioned whether her family was exploiting her for attention and financial gain.
Reports suggested that Lil Tay's mother was involved in coaching her and orchestrating some of the provocative content she posted.
In mid-2018, she disappeared from social media after being exposed for posing at open houses, that her realtor mother had access to, to seem rich.
