New Feature Alert: Creators Can Add Texts & Filters To Thumbnails On YouTube Shorts

YouTube has launched new tools for creators on YouTube Shorts. Creators can now customize the thumbnails of their short videos by adding text, filters, and more on Android as well as iOS. They also have more options for selecting thumbnails, even after their YouTube Shorts have been uploaded. This update follows recent features tested by the platform, such as the ability to automatically pause playback.

What Is The New Feature & How Does It Work?

YouTube shared details about these new features in a video on its Creator Insider channel. With the new Shorts thumbnail options, users can now add text, filters, and emojis to their video thumbnails. When selecting a thumbnail for short videos, users will find two new options in the top right corner of the screen for adding these elements.

Additionally, users can choose & edit their thumbnails even after their YouTube Shorts have been uploaded. YouTube aims to give creators more control over how their short videos look across different devices with these highly requested features. The updated thumbnails will appear on search results, hashtag pages, audio pages, and more.
