From romance, literary classics to erotica, here are my personal favourite books adapted into Netflix movies!
The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks is a romance novel that follows the love story of two characters, Allie and Noah, who are separated due to Allie’s father’s restraint. The plot revolves around an elderly man reading Allie and Noah’s story to an elderly woman suffering from dementia. The majority of the audience enjoyed the film, including myself, because it is based on a true storey that makes me cry every time.
Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is a literary classic based on the romance genre that set the bar high for all romantic stories. However, no story has ever come close. The plot revolves around Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet, who attempt to demonstrate the difference between the good that is superstitious and the true good through the pride of high social status and prejudice against the lower. While Elizabeth walks along the path of this journey, we quickly realise how both characters share a commonality in that they both harbour pride and prejudice and discover it through trial and error. The story is rather satirical on a complicated plot line. Although the readers, as well as viewers, have received this with great admiration.
A story full of love by Cecelia Ahern brings us to discuss two characters at large, Holly Kennedy and Gerry who don’t know they’re important to each other until it is the husband Gerry’s funeral as he passes away due to a brain tumour. Knowing Gerry had a numbered days, Holly then receives 10 letters from her late husband over time for her to mourn, move on and fall in love again. Gerry helps her grieve and is there for her every step of the way through those letters. This story is another romance plotline that the readers, as well as the audience, have dearly loved.
The story, Fifty Shades of Grey, written by E.L.James talks about two characters, Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele at large. We see how attraction for both the characters develops as the movie progresses and discloses Christian’s varied sense of playroom – playing with the elements of sexual pleasure and pain. This erotica, however, well-received by readers, have been received rather at opposition by the viewers or audience, at large. Although I strongly recommend this trilogy and hence, would suggest you watch it.
Lastly, this coming-of-age Young Adult story by writer and director Stephen Chbosky talks about the protagonist, Charlie, a 15-year-old introvert who enters high school and tries to deal with difficult scenarios that life creates for him through his out-of-the-box mindset. This story was very well received by readers and viewers, both and is an absolute must-read and must-watch!
