5 Reasons Why Tiku Weds Sheru Could Not Weave Its Magic

When a highly acclaimed actor such as Nawazuddin Siddiqui is to be seen in a film, expectations and anticipation are at an all-time high. To add fuel to the fire, an unusual pairing of Avneet Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui was conceptualised for the film. You got it right, we are speaking of Tiku Weds Sheru. The OTT release was talked about extensively until the kiss scene between Siddiqui and Kaur went viral, dampening the spirits of the audience. Yet, like everybody else, we were eagerly waiting for the film to release, until it did. To us, the film is a miss and we will give 5 reasons why we think Tiku Weds Sheru did not even come close to the bull’s eye.

The cast and crew of Tiku Weds Sheru

Released on Amazon Prime Video, Tiku Weds Sheru is directed by Sai Kabir and stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Avneet Kaur, Vipin Sharma, Zakir Hussain, and Mukesh S Bhatt. The movie’s runtime is 111 minutes.

The plot

Shiraz Khan Afghani aka Sheru (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) hails from a small town and moves to the city of dreams, Mumbai, to make it big in Bollywood. While he blurs into the background being a ‘junior artist,’ he still holds his dream dearly.

Tasneem (Avneet Kaur), or Tiku, only wishes to free herself from the clutches of her orthodox family. No brainy, Sheru becomes her ticket to freedom and that’s how Tiku Weds Sheru. The common thread that ties them both is love, not for each other, but for the Hindi film industry. The movie revolves around this and eventually comes to a close. Now let us list the reason why Tiku Weds Sheru did not make the cut for us.

From paper to the screen

We would call this film a ‘Good script and bad execution’ film. The film possesses a well-crafted screenplay but it failed to translate it effectively on screen. Despite having a strong foundation, weak direction and inconsistent acting, hindered the execution of the story. As a result, the final product fell short of its potential, leaving us disappointed and emphasising the crucial role that execution plays in bringing a script to life.

Inconsistent Acting

A script’s success relies on the actors’ ability to embody the characters and deliver compelling performances. If the actors fail to bring depth, authenticity, or emotional resonance to their roles, the execution of the script can suffer greatly. Rather unbelievable, but Nawazuddin Siddiqui failed to impress us in Tiku Weds Sheru. His acting felt repetitive and forced in places, limiting his otherwise shining potential. On the other hand, Kaur was more impressive in the film, bringing a fresh perspective.

The faulty pairing

The pairing felt faulty not because of the huge age gap. In fact, their age serves the plot of the film but it is their mismatched energies that hurt the emotions. While Avneet is full of energy, Nawaz seems a little bored on screen. Due to these differences, we struggled to connect with the relationship unfolding on screen.

Lack of Originality

In the competitive landscape of OTT platforms, originality stands out. Tiku WedsSheru fails to offer unique perspectives, fresh narratives, or innovative storytelling. It is a film that is born out of the underbelly of Bollywood, resembling a little bit of this and a little bit of that. The narrative feels too repetitive. An underdog, casting couch, big Bollywood dreams and love blossoming from nowhere. Honestly, the movie feels like a biography of Siddiqui himself.

Timing and Market Saturation

For us, the timing of the movie’s release and the saturation of similar content in the market is also a reason that we think has impacted its success. Understanding the market dynamics and strategically timing the release is a significant factor to enhance a movie’s chances of success and we think Tiku Weds Sheru did not play the card right.

The film under review falls short of expectations and fails to deliver a satisfying cinematic experience for us. Despite the potential that may have existed within the concept or premise, the final product fails to capture it effectively. Regrettably, Tiku Weds Sheru can only be regarded as a forgettable addition to the cinematic landscape.
