In this exclusive interview, we get into a candid chat with Tanzeel Khan who talks about his latest single- Pehla Pyaar, his understanding of love, and the intertwining of his life and artistry.
SN: We loved your latest song – Pehla Pyaar, it takes you back to your first love. What was your thought behind creating this song?
Tanzeel: “Pehla Pyaar” is not merely about the first person you fall in love with. It’s about that profound feeling, that inexplicable rush, which can strike you even in the company of your fifth or sixth partner. It’s that sensation of experiencing love for the first time, regardless of how many times you’ve felt it before. My aim with this song was to give Pehla Pyaar a deeper, metaphorical meaning, transcending the clichés associated with it. I wanted to convey the message that even if you feel like you’ve lost your first love, hold on tight because someone new might come along to reignite that flame.
SN: This is a one-take song, how did you and the actors manage? Can you explain the challenges of doing this for someone who is not from this background?
Tanzeel: Shooting a one-take music video like Pehla Pyaar has always been a dream of mine. It was a collaborative effort, and I was fortunate to work with actors who were not only friends but also incredibly talented dancers. The key was finding individuals who could act, dance, and adapt quickly to the spontaneous choreography that we created on the spot. While it presented its challenges, the energy and synergy among the team made it all possible with Shehzaan and Noorin.
SN: Most of your songs have a romantic angle to them, would you call yourself a hopeless romantic in real life?
Tanzeel: My songs are either sad-romantic or happy-romantic, so that comes down to one thing: romance is my thing. I’d definitely label myself as a hopeless romantic. I genuinely believe love is the solution to 1000 problems. I am a hopeless romantic but with the hope of true love existing. So you could say I am a hope-full romantic, finding inspiration in the belief that love conquers all. (Laughs)

SN: If you were to dedicate one Bollywood song to your forever love, which one would it be?
Tanzeel: Choosing just one Bollywood song to dedicate to my forever love is like trying to pick a single star from the sky—it’s an impossible task! If it’s Bollywood that we are talking about, I’ll need a whole playlist to dedicate. However, to pick one, all I can think of is ‘Pehla pyaar’ by Tanzeel Khan–because, hey, why not add a personal touch to the playlist?
SN: What is Tanzeel’s love language?
Tanzeel: I am a simple man. Today when everything is moving so fast, my love language is spending quality time with my loved one. Giving your time is free but also priceless in today’s day and age.
SN: What is the one thing that you can’t stand in a relationship?
Tanzeel: I can’t go to bed angry/ disappointed with someone I love. If there is a disagreement, I like to talk it out and make things better. Another thing could be a mainstream answer but lying is something that I cannot stand!
SN: If you had to pick between content creation and music composition/singing, what would you choose and why?
Tanzeel: Music helps me showcase my art and Content helps me showcase my personality. Both are integral parts of my creative journey. Being able to make music has been a blessing because I’ve been writing poems since 8th standard, but promoting my music and having an audience is where content helped me. Currently, my focus is on delivering quality music and doing shows. However, content creation is a medium where I’ll always be connected to my people who have shown love and affection over the years.
SN: What are you looking forward to in 2024? Any future projects that your fans can look forward to?
Tanzeel: I believe in Nazar. I end up speaking too much and jinxing things. I hope I accomplish everything that I have my eyes on, then 2024 will be a great year. Stay tuned for what’s to come!
