Amid much anticipation, the athleisure brand, Adidas, recently unveiled the official video showcasing Team India’s jersey for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The Instagram video was shot in Dharmshala stadium and featured prominent cricketers including Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav.
The 20-second clip, released on Instagram, got the fans excited with its scenic shots of Dharmshala’s Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium. The video began with Indian captain Rohit Sharma sporting an orange hoodie, joined by Jadeja and Yadav. A helicopter then brought the new jersey against the stunning backdrop, giving a full heroic entry to the new jersey. The video is a viral sensation with 14 million views and 1.3 million likes.
The updated jersey design highlighted several notable changes from its predecessor, the popular blue jersey. While the traditional blue still is a dominant feature, orange is introduced on the shoulder patch and sleeves, adding a fresh dimension. The logos and symbols are placed differently, including the BCCI emblem with a single star representing the T20 World Cup victory in 2007.
Prior to the official launch, leaked visuals of the new jersey had already circulated on social media, fuelling speculation and discussion. However, the addition of orange to the jersey’s colour has stirred controversy, with some users associating it with the ruling political party’s colour. Negative comments flooded in, expressing concern over the shift from blue to saffron.
Despite the backlash, there were voices on social media applauding the new jersey’s design. Some users spoke about the importance of both blue and saffron in India’s national identity, while others appreciated the nod to the tricolour flag. Amidst the polarised opinions, the jersey’s design was still a subject of discussion, pride and hope to emerge victorious in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Adidas unveiling Team India’s T20 World Cup jersey sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, ranging from criticism to praise. While the addition of orange raised eyebrows, the design’s nod to national symbolism and cricketing heritage did not go unnoticed. As fans eagerly await the Indian team’s performance on the field, the jersey symbolises the love of the fans that is devoted to their beloved game.
