AI-Assisted Music in India Reaches a New Creative Milestone!

AI-assisted music in India starts a new chapter where AI is used as an assistant for music creation, with independent musicians like Jake Joss embracing AI-assisted music in their own productions. AI music is currently transitioning from its previous uses in India, including background scores in Bollywood films like “Baar Baar Dekho,” to creating content like “Shine Bright,” an AI-assisted music composition that is the latest track from Jake Joss’s independent music company, “Original Sing.”

“Shine Bright” is recorded in English and Korean and is one of the first Human-AI Collaboration English-Korean Pop songs recorded by an Indian at merely 12 years old.

AI-Assisted Music in India And a Rare Hat-Trick of Innovation

Original Sing has managed to accomplish three different AI music projects within only a year, making for an odd trilogy in the indie music world. These projects include:

  • One of the first fully documented AI music videos produced with prompt engineering techniques on both music and videos and with lyrics crafted by humans called “Daddy”.
  • One of the first joint Human-AI albums on patriotism, with five full music videos titled “Azaadi,”
  • An English-Korean pop song performed by humans with AI assistance called “Shine Bright”.

Together, these projects demonstrate the progressive entry of AI-assisted music into a more structured and repeatable process in India. Unlike works of automated music, these projects explore the possibilities of AI assistance in helping independent artists overcome constraints of language, scalability, and music production capabilities.

Father and Daughter Collaboration At The Core

Firstly, there is a personal challenge in terms of creativity that underpins “Shine Bright”. This actually started when Jake Joss wanted to compose an English-Korean song based on the inspiration he took from K-pop so that his 12-year-old daughter Alithea would enjoy it, knowing that she was a fan of that genre of music, yet not understanding a bit of the language.

AI support was also present throughout this process, most importantly with regard to influencing the lyrics’ subtleties of emotion and some elements of composition, which are most often seen in K-pop music. It is important to note that while AI support was used throughout this process, human interventions inspired the emotional direction and ultimate purpose of these melody compositions.

Only one condition needed to be met for this project to achieve success: Alithea had to agree to record the song only if she liked it. When Alithea was exposed to the demo of the song that had been composed through human guidance of AI technology, she decided that she wanted to record it herself.

AI-Assisted Music in India And The Significance of Human Emotions

This encapsulates a larger trend within AI-assisted music in the Indian context, where technology enables structure, speed, and accessibility, while human emotions continue to be at the core. The use of AI enabled a possible overcome for linguistic barriers and musical expectations, while the performance enables grounding within the real rather than the artificial.

The above balance is addressing one of the most dominant fears associated with AI in creative domains. Contrary to other forms of AI-related art, “Shine Bright” showcases the enabling aspect of AI in creative domains, particularly in the context of independent artisans operating beyond typical production house setups.

The Pattern of Twelve and Creative Symbolism

A unique aspect of the “Shine Bright” creation is the involvement of the number twelve. The singer is 12 years old, the artist was born on the 12th, the song was recorded at Twelve Strings Production, and the business name Original Sing contains 12 letters. Even the release date was intended on the 12th of December!

Although these are details that could be considered coincidental by many, they do give the project an extra layer of meaning through symbolism. The number twelve is generally associated with cycles, musical bases, constellations, and completeness. As the song’s theme is already about “Shine Bright,” this adds to it in its own subtle way without overshooting as the dominant theme.

AI Assisted Music in India and the Paradigm Shift in Visual Storytelling

The Lyric Video of “Shine Bright” marks a departure in the visual works that the artist explored using AI in the past. The artist initially focused on creating visuals programmatically using AI, which they would later use to achieve the final result. This particular video started with the design of the song’s cover art using AI-assisted prompts.

Real photographs were used as references in order to achieve the natural likeness of the character. AI environments assisted in the development of the visual surroundings of the character. Each shot was carefully broken down into the rhythm of the song in order to achieve the human touch mixed with the automated creativity. Such techniques represent the increasing recognition of the impact of AI on visual consistency.

A Wider Path Towards AI-Assisted Music in India.

Globally, there are investigations into the use of AI for music composition, mastering, localizations, and video productions. In countries like India, independent artists working with restricted budgets can explore new avenues for creativity through AI-assisted music platforms.
