Bollywood stars are venturing into the OTT world and this is no secret. After the likes of Kajol and Kareena Kapoor, Ananya Panday is all set to make a comeback to the OTT realm, but this time with a web series as she shares the poster for the much-awaited series- ‘Call Me Bae.’ A riches to rags story, the web series will have Ananya Panday in the lead role and will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting September 6. The series is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment and is all set to bring a fresh narrative to the streaming platform.
Directed by Collin D’Cunha, Call Me Bae features a strong ensemble cast including Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkaan Jaferi, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Lisa Mishra, and Mini Mathur. The series was created by Ishita Moitra and penned by Ishita Moitra, Samina Motlekar, and Rohit Nair.
Ananya Panday stars as Bella ‘Bae’ Chowdhary, a wealthy heiress who faces a dramatic change in circumstances. Stripped of her luxurious lifestyle, Bae must navigate the real world, relying on her wit, street smarts, and unique style. The series chronicles her journey through the newsrooms of Mumbai, where she discovers new relationships and learns about her true self.
Ananya Panday announced the series’ release date on Instagram, with the caption, “Hey Bae.” Prime Video and Karan Johar also promoted the upcoming release, encouraging viewers to update their calendars for the premiere on September 6. The promotional poster shows Ananya dressed in a striking red and white outfit, sitting on suitcases and looking confidently at the camera.
This series marks Ananya Panday’s debut in the OTT series space. She has been making waves in the industry with her performances, including her role in OTT gem Kho Gaye Hum Kahan alongside Adarsh Gourav and Siddhant Chaturvedi. Ananya’s upcoming projects include Control and The Untold Story of C Sankaran Nair, along with a cameo in Bad Newz.
Ananya Panday’s real-life experiences closely mirror those of her on-screen character, Bella ‘Bae’ Chowdhary. Often perceived as privileged due to her Bollywood lineage, Ananya has faced public scrutiny and the pressure to prove herself beyond her background. Similarly, Bae transitions from a life of luxury to navigating challenges with her street smarts and resilience. This parallel between Ananya’s personal journey and Bae’s storyline adds a layer of authenticity to her portrayal, making her a rather fun choice for the role.
By the looks of it, Call Me Bae promises to be a compelling series with a blend of humour, drama, and self-discovery, showcasing Ananya Panday in a role that reflects both her on-screen and off-screen journey.
