When working out or going for a run or on the go, what do you listen to? The most common answer is music. There are not many options there, but when given a choice, Audible audiobooks would be the popular pick. After its initial announcement a few months ago, Audible has officially been released on Wear OS. The Amazon-owned audiobook service first revealed its plans to launch a Wear OS app back in July.
Coinciding with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series, it will also feature the Wear OS 4 operating system for smartwatches by Google. Last week, the tech giant also launched the Pixel Watch 2 smartwatch, which will come pre-equipped with Wear OS 4. Pixel Watch 2 will be available in India and users will be able to listen to the audiobook service’s content on the smartwatch. A few months after being announced, Audible has now launched on Wear OS.
Only a handful of Android smartwatches currently run WearOS 4. The list includes Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series, Galaxy Watch 5 series, Galaxy Watch 6 series, Google Pixel Watch and Google Pixel Watch 2. In a blog post, Google confirmed the arrival of the Audible app on the latest WearOS version on the Google Play Store. The app supports offline downloads and the ability to adjust the speed of playback as well as to pick audiobooks from your library.
In the blog post, Google explains how the Audible app will work on WearOS.
The company explained:
Audible brings your audiobook library to your wrist so you can listen anywhere, no phone required.
Start listening with a tap to your watch, whether you’re on a walk, running errands, or just spending some time unplugged.
Dive into your favourite mysteries and thrillers, indulge in romance, or escape into the realms of sci-fi & fantasy with best-selling authors like Neil Gaiman and John Scalzi.”
The app will support offline downloads as well. Apart from this, Audible’s WearOS app will also allow users to adjust the speed of playback as well as pick audiobooks from its library.
Apart from Audible, several other apps are also available for download on the WearOS version of Play Store like WhatsApp and Gmail. Google began rolling out the Gmail app on WearOS smartwatches soon after the launch of Pixel Watch 2. Meanwhile, WhatsApp was made available on the operating system since July.
