Indian director, producer, and screenwriter Sanjay Leela Bhansali, known for making films like ‘Bajirao Mastani’, ‘Devdas’, ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, ‘Ram-Leela’, ‘Black’, ‘Mary Kom’, and ‘Padmaavat’ is venturing the OTT world with his upcoming Netflix original series, ‘Heeramandi’.
Netflix India announced the news through Instagram just six days ago. Here’s what they wrote, “We are excited to announce that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi IS COMING TO NETFLIX 🔥 Words aren’t enough to explain how excited we are that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is partnering with us for this epic Netflix Original series but these emojis come pretty close 🤯 😮🌟🎊🎉 💥🤸🔥🥳🙌💯🥺👀🤩”
As you can see in the tagline “Where Courtesans Were Queens”, ‘Heeramandi’ will portray love, betrayal, politics, and succession in kothas, set in Lahore of pre-independent India.
Talking about his new step in the digital space, Bhansali said in a statement, “Heeramandi is an important milestone in my journey as a filmmaker. This is an epic, first of its kind series based on the courtesans of Lahore. It is an ambitious, grand and all-encompassing series; therefore I am nervous yet excited about making it. I am looking forward to my partnership with Netflix and bringing Heeramandi to audiences all over the world.”
Well, going by Bhansali’s benchmark of creating epic films, ‘Heeramandi’ has already set huge expectations within us. I’m sure y’all are pretty excited for this upcoming release on Netflix! So, hold your heart and wait for this upcoming saga!
