The ‘Dance The Night‘ singer, Dua Lipa surprised her fans and followers with the most unexpected Christmas present. She decided to spend the holidays with her family in India! The three-time Grammy winner travelled around Delhi, Jodhpur and Jaipur in Rajasthan. She shared pictures from the holiday with her 88.5 million fans on social media. Her posts gave us a glimpse into the family’s vacation album where they visited many historical monuments and had a wholesome time overall.
Accompanied by her parents Anesa Lipa and Dukagjin Lipa, sister Rina Lipa, and brother Gjin Lipa, Dua shared that she feels ‘lucky’ to spend the end of the year in the country. Sharing pictures from her trip, she captioned it, “Happy Holidays from me to youuuuu❤️ sending love light health and happiness for the year ahead x” Reacting to the post, fans were elated to see her in the country after many years and extended a warm welcome to her.
The British-Albanian sensation was spotted exploring the traditional Rajasthani palaces and local sites. She seems to have been taking in the city’s skyline and culture. Her holiday outfits have been most talked about too. From her red jacket and denim look to the stunning embellished off-shoulder dress, to more jackets and sweatshirt looks, Dua’s outfits were loved by all. Especially when she wore a traditional yellow, Rajasthani Kurti. The Internet went into a frenzy when she posted pictures donning the Kurti.
The pop singer’s Instagram turned into a visual diary for her India trip. She was seen enjoying tea inside a camp, going on a safari, spotting a tiger, watching a traditional dance performance, posing with an elephant, visiting a temple, riding a horse, and a lot more.
She even penned a heartfelt note for India and the people who showed her and her family ‘love, kindness and hospitality’. “This experience has been deeply meaningful. I feel lucky to be in and within the magic with my family where we have had the time to explore, regroup, recharge and restart. Ready for the year ahead. What a joy!!! 💛!!!!” said her caption.
During her trip, she visited Humayun’s Tomb in New Delhi and sought blessings at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib with her family. They also rode in a tuktuk. Dua’s dad called it the best form of transport while tagging Porsche in his post. In Jodhpur, she and her fam explored the Umaid Bhavan Palace, the Rajasthani textile collection and even witnessed how the locals tie their turbans.
The family also celebrated the youngest son, Gjin’s 18th Birthday here. In Jaipur, the Lipas partied with Rajkumari Gauravi Kumari, the daughter of Maharajkumari Shri Diya Kumari Sahiba of Jaipur, Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Dua picked an impressive black halter-neck dress for the night where she enjoyed 5 negronis. The Levitating singer called her India experience ‘deeply meaningful.’
Spanish actress Penelope Cruz and Indian singer Armaan Malik commented on Dua’s post with red heart emojis. Many fans from India were pleasantly surprised to see her visit the country and reacted to her posts. One said, “You are so cute in Rajasthani traditional!” Another fan wrote, “She’s wearing dhaga (sacred thread) in her hand is so cute!” A comment read, “One thing about Dua is she know how to live her best life.” “Happy New Year Dua!” wished another fan.
This is Lipa’s third visit to India. She first visited the country in 2018 with her then-boyfriend Issac Crew. The couple visited Rathambore, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kerala, and Goa “switching off for a little bit and getting totally immersed in the magical culture, food and traditions,” according to her Instagram post at the time. Dua then archived most of her old posts to curate an all-new feed.
She also wore a sari for the first time. Posting a picture, she had written, “At the Ganesh Temple in Jaipur. A lady outside the temple helped me and taught me how to put on my sari before I entered. We joined in with the locals and offered sweet treats to the Gods and the people inside.” It was a trip she had wanted to do for a very long time and was happy to have done it. Dua revisited the country in November 2019 to perform at the OnePlus Music Festival in Mumbai.
On the professional front, she recently dropped her new single Houdini, the first song from her third studio album, which is set for release in 2024. It follows her hit Barbie soundtrack song Dance the Night, which came out in May 2023. Dua’s last studio album, 2020’s Future Nostalgia, was an international chart-topper which gained her a Best Pop Vocal Album Grammy and British Album of the Year Brit Award, among many other accolades. Lipa’s chart-breaking singles include Levitating, New Rules, One Kiss, and Don’t Start Now.
