About The Influencer

The Influencer is a Korean reality show available on Netflix featuring 77 influencers from Korea competing to determine who holds the most influence on social media. The show revolves around a competition where these influencers showcase their skills on platforms like YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and AfreecaTV to strategically attract the most attention, all in a high-stakes social survival setting.

With a prize of 300 million won up for grabs (equivalent to approximately INR 18 crores), the participants engage in challenges and tasks that test their ability to engage audiences effectively.

The Influencers At Netflix’s The Influencer

Features 77 of Korea’s most famous social media influencers, the cast of The Influencer includes popular influencers like RISABAE, PaniBottle, Shim Euddeum, Jang Keun-Suk, Sia_jiwoo, KEJIMIN, Ki Eun-Se, and Heo Seong-Beom. Moreover, it also includes cosplay champion MyBoo, YouTuber Lee Yong-jin, and beauty creator Seyeon among others.

Additionally, the show is now available on Netflix, which has drawn comparisons to dystopian stories like Battle Royale and The Hunger Games.

The Influencer Through Our Lens

Initially, the teaser of the show set the stage for an exciting journey into the lives of rising content creators with gradually massive followings. Features 77 influencers from South Korea, each one had to wear a collar displaying their follower count on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and AfreecaTV.

These collars were quite similar to dog leashes, leaving us wondering if the show aims to highlight the industry’s challenges or if it’s making a bold statement on the creator economy.

The influencers made not-so-subtle appearances at the show. One cruises in a flashy Lamborghini, while another makes a statement by showing up in his underclothes. Belonging through diverse groups like beauty, fashion, fitness, and sports among others, the creators brought their A-game with a unique mix of talents to the table.

So far 4 episodes are out! One of our best moments would be Jang Keun Suk, also known as the Prince of Asia. Initially appearing as a host, he surprises everyone by returning with a collar of his own, showcasing his humble beginnings as an influencer. This moment added a didn’t-see-that-coming twist to the show.

Is It Worth Watching?

If you are intrigued by social media culture and the world of influencers, this show might be a good choice. The show gives you a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of 77 diverse influencers, covering everything from beauty & fashion to fitness and sports. It also offers a mix of drama and excitement as these personalities compete for the top spot while navigating the ups and downs of online fame.

With the added star power of Jang Keun Suk, who makes a surprising appearance, the show brings an interesting twist to the usual reality TV format.

On the contrary, if reality TV drama isn’t your thing, or you’re not particularly interested in influencer culture, this might not be your thing. However, it might take a few episodes to get fully hooked, so it’s worth watching a couple to see if it connects with you. If you enjoy exploring different themes of social media, The Influencer could be an entertaining and insightful watch.
