In a world of glitz, glamour, and larger-than-life characters, Huma Qureshi brings a refreshing charm and natural talent to the Bollywood scene. With her infectious smile, versatile acting skills, and down-to-earth personality, Huma has captured the hearts of audiences and critics alike. 2023 definitely is Huma’s year as she’s been seen in very different but very powerful roles. While she essays the role of Wonderchef Tarla Dalal in the movie Tarla, she also announced with regards to season 3 of the political drama, Maharani. While Huma has carved a niche for herself, let us look through her trajectory and her upcoming projects.
Before gracing the silver screen, Huma honed her acting skills through theatre. She performed in numerous plays and even worked as a theatre actor for a while. Huma’s breakthrough came with Anurag Kashyap’s crime-drama Gangs of Wasseypur in 2012. Her portrayal of the character Mohsina received critical acclaim and helped establish her as a talented actress in Bollywood. Since then Huma has worked in numerous films and made her presence felt with every new work.
No actor really can duck the OTT space and grow in their field. Slowly, OTT platforms have become all-encompassing and Huma Qureshi was also drawn to this increasingly popular entertainment scene. In 2019, she appeared in the Netflix series Leila, which garnered critical acclaim for her performance and showcased her abilities as an actress. Since then she has been seen in others before she made her presence felt thoroughly in the SonyLIV show, Maharani.
A political drama, Maharani, quickly rose to fame and its consecutive seasons are proof of this. After completing two successful seasons, the show commenced the shooting for the third season. As soon as this information was made public, the fans and media houses could not keep their calm.
Huma Qureshi portrayed the lead role of Rani Bharti, a simple homemaker who gets sucked into the political world of lies and deceit after her husband meets with an accident. Her rise from a simple woman to a rebel in the male-dominant society is not only inspiring but also delightful. Huma plays the part of Rani with such ease, it becomes difficult to separate one from the other.
In Tarla, Huma plays the role of the titular character Tarla Dalal, who is one of the best-known cooks in India. It is often said that a way to the man’s heart is through the stomach and while navigating these roads, Tarla becomes the only woman in such out-of-the-box careers.
While Tarla reminds very much of Tumhari Sulu, both these movies showcase the lead as an ambitious woman, seeking more from their lives, Tarla at some places fall flat at its narration but Huma’s extraordinary screen presence makes the film worth the watch.
One cannot talk about Huma Qureshi without mentioning her signature cat-eye makeup. Her love for the classic winged eyeliner look is evident in many of her public appearances and red carpet moments. It has become her go-to makeup style, accentuating her eyes and adding a touch of vintage glamour to her overall look.
Huma is known for her straightforward and witty personality. She doesn’t shy away from expressing her opinions and has been a vocal advocate for various social causes. Her candid interviews and unfiltered remarks have endeared her to fans, making her a refreshing presence in an industry often known for diplomatic responses.
Huma Qureshi’s journey in Bollywood and now OTT is a testament to her talent, dedication, and vibrant personality. With each role, she brings a unique charm and captivates audiences with her versatility. From her love for biryani to her candid conversations and style statements, Huma continues to win hearts and carve her own niche in the world of cinema. With a promising future ahead, we eagerly await her next captivating performance and infectious smile on the big screen.
