We are well into the wedding season. It’s that time of the year when it’s raining shaadis across the country. And this year we are reportedly set to witness one of the biggest weddings in the nation. You already know what we’re talking about – the Ambani wedding. When the youngest son of the richest man in India is about to get married, you know it is going to be more than an extravagant affair.
Millionaire Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani‘s son Anant Ambani will be tying the knot with his girlfriend/fiancée Radhika Merchant. Although no confirmation of the wedding date has been confirmed, the couple’s pre-wedding festivities invite got leaked and went viral on social media. According to the details inscribed on the card, Anant and Radhika’s pre-wedding celebrations are scheduled for the first week of March 2024.
As per the invite, the wedding festivities will be held from March 1 to March 3, 2024. Mukesh and Nita Ambani have penned a handwritten note inside the card saying that they have decided to mark the beginning of Anant Ambani’s new chapter. The card, decorated with lush greens and forest motifs, also suggests that the three-day celebration will take place at Reliance Greens in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The place is very close to their hearts.
“Reliance built the world’s largest grassroots refining complex near Jamnagar. Over the years, we planted more than 10 million trees in this arid region. Taking the spirit of this initiative further, Anant has lovingly nurtured this complex into a haven of care and compassion for over thousands of rescued animals. Over the past 25 years we have built our fondest memories in Jamnagar and it is the place closest to our heart. We look forward to having you with us as we celebrate the beginning of Radhika and Anant’s wedding festivities”, the note read.
Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant got officially engaged at Shrinathji Temple in Rajasthan’s Nathdwara on December 29, 2022, in an intimate roka ceremony. This was followed by a lavish party hosted by the Ambanis at their Mumbai mansion which was attended by the who’s who of the industry.
“Anant and Radhika have known each other for a few years and today’s ceremony commences the formal journey of their marriage in the coming months. Both families seek the blessings and good wishes of everyone for Radhika and Anant as they start their journey of togetherness,” read a statement released on the day of their engagement in December.
The couple got engaged in a Gujarati Gol Dhana and Chunari Vidhi ceremony at their Mumbai residence, Antilia, on January 19, 2023. Gol Dhana, literally, means coriander seeds and jaggery. At a Gujarati wedding, the ceremony represents an engagement.
The bride and her family arrive at the groom’s house with sweets and gifts. The couple then exchanges engagement rings and seeks blessings from five married women from each family. In this ceremony, the couple makes each other have the Gol Dhana and in turn, it is distributed to guests at the ceremony. The most memorable part of the event at the time was a surprise performance put on by the Ambanis.
Interestingly, some netizens were under the impression that the couple was already married, since they have appeared as a formal couple at many social events, and the fact that their engagement occurred almost a year ago with pictures splashed across the media. They wished and showered love and blessings on the couple.
While the wedding card leaked online, the internet has been buzzing with hilarious reactions. Their responses to the announcement cracked us up! A sad user commented, “Mein nahi ja paaunga yaar🥲” Another wrote, “It’s like they don’t know what to do with so much money.. They keep having weddings, preweddings, openings, birthdays all through out the year..”
A third user plans to sneak into their wedding using the popular scene reference from the movie 3 Idiots. He said, “Gonna ‘Hum science ke taraf se hai’ my way to their wedding” A curious netizen asked, “Can we print this off Instagram and go ?” Popular meme account Xavier Uncle said “SRK will serve Chhole Bhature right !“
Now, news emerged that the wedding invite that got leaked is actually fake and not authentic. “Officially there is no pre-wedding ceremony planned as of now. The family is planning some things in Jamnagar but nothing is fixed. I think people are using these rumours for their baseless claims.” a close friend of the Ambani family revealed in a statement.
Anant Ambani has completed his education at Brown University in the United States and has since served at Reliance Industries in various capacities including as a member on the Boards of Jio Platforms and Reliance Retail Ventures. He leads the energy business of Reliance Industries.
Radhika Merchant, the daughter of Shaila and businessman Viren Merchant, who is the non-executive director of ADF Foods Limited. She graduated from New York University, majoring in political science and economics. Radhika serves as a Director on the Board of Encore Healthcare. She is also a trained classical dancer, having received guidance from Guru Bhavan Thakar at Mumbai’s Shri Nritya Academy.
Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant have reportedly been friends for many years but didn’t start dating until much later. The dating rumours began in 2018 when a picture of the couple wearing matching olive robes started trending on social media. This was followed by Radhika’s appearance at the elder Ambani siblings’ weddings in 2018 and 2019, with Anant by her side.
And now, they’re all set to start a new journey of togetherness.
