Love in Vietnam: A Tale of Cross-Cultural Romance Unveiled at Cannes

The 77th Cannes Film Festival saw the debut of ‘Love in Vietnam’, a groundbreaking collaboration between the Indian and Vietnamese entertainment industries. This marks the first time the two countries have come together to produce a feature film. The first-look poster of this highly anticipated movie was revealed to the audience at Cannes, capturing the excitement and glamour of the prestigious event.

Star-Studded Cast and Crew

Love in Vietnam features an impressive cast, including Indian heartthrobs Shantanu Maheshwari and Avneet Kaur, alongside Vietnamese sensation Kha Ngan. Directed by Rahhat Shah Kazmi and produced by Omung Kumar, the film brings together a diverse team of talent. Shantanu Maheshwari, known for his recent role in Netflix’s ‘Tooth Pari: When Love Bites‘ and the film ‘Gangubai Kathiwadi‘, expressed his excitement about the project on Instagram. Similarly, Avneet Kaur, who last starred in ‘Tiku Weds Sheru’, shared her pride and enthusiasm for being part of this cross-cultural venture.

Inspiration from Literature

The film draws its narrative from the beloved novel ‘Madonna in a Fur Coat‘, weaving a story that promises to resonate with audiences across cultures. The collaboration has not only united talent from two countries but also merged cultural narratives, creating a unique cinematic experience.

Diplomatic and Institutional Support

The production of Love in Vietnam is backed by significant diplomatic and institutional support. The Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Mumbai, and Vietnam Airlines have all lent their support to this ambitious project. This cooperation highlights the growing cultural and cinematic ties between India and Vietnam.

Celebration of Indian Cinema

In addition to the unveiling of Love in Vietnam, the Cannes Film Festival also hosted the first-ever Bharat Parva. This event celebrated India’s rich cultural heritage through a blend of cuisine, handicrafts, and cinema. Organised by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Bharat Parva showcased vibrant performances and fusion fare, captivating festival delegates.

Prominent Indian Presence

The Bharat Pavilion at Cannes, inaugurated by Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Sanjay Jaju and Ambassador of India to France Jawed Ashraf, symbolised India’s dedication to promoting its cinematic heritage on the global stage. The pavilion featured the unveiling of posters for the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and the inaugural World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES). States like Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra participated in the Cannes Film Market, further amplifying India’s cinematic presence.

With Love in Vietnam capturing hearts and the Bharat Pavilion shining bright, Indian cinema continues to make significant strides on the global stage. The unveiling at Cannes not only marks a milestone in Indo-Vietnamese cinematic relations but also reaffirms India’s status as a global cinematic powerhouse.
