Content Creators today adapt to the changing social media trends in a jiffy and keep upskilling themselves constantly. Every time a content platform releases new features or changes its UI or launches a new app, creators learn how to navigate through it all in an instant. This adaptability is what keeps them relevant in the industry and keeps their audience engaged with their content.
YouTube as a platform has always been a place where creators of all different backgrounds and levels of experience have pushed the bounds of creative expression. The video-streaming platform is also constantly amazed by how these creators take every new feature, technology or trend and turn it into something they could never have imagined.
The company held its annual Creator Summit “Made on YouTube,” on 21st September 2023. At the summit, they announced a range of new AI-powered tools that will aid in content creation. “At Made On YouTube, we’re unveiling a suite of products and features that will enable people to push the bounds of creative expression yet again — by making the difficult things simple, and the impossible dreams possible,” said YouTube in its blog post.
Let’s dive into the newly announced features and upgrades:
Since YouTube Shorts launched in 2020, it has been a destination for sharing off-the-cuff ideas and inspiration. Later this year, the company will begin testing Dream Screen, a new experimental feature that allows you to create AI-generated video or image backgrounds to your Shorts simply by typing your idea into a prompt.
Whether you wish to show you’re filming in outer space or trekking through an enchanted forest, with Dream Screen, creators will be able to generate imaginative background settings for their Shorts. You will also be able to remix existing Shorts videos and turn them into something entirely new. This feature will be rolled out for select creators initially and then more broadly next year.
The production process for creating and uploading videos on YouTube can prove to be tedious for a first-time creator and they tend to give up on uploading that first video too. To streamline this process and allow anyone to create and share videos on YouTube itself, they are launching a new mobile app called YouTube Create.
It is designed to make video production for Shorts or longer videos simpler and easier for creators. Currently free of charge, YouTube Create is in its beta version on Android in select markets including US, UK, Germany, France, Indonesia, India, Korea, and Singapore. The company is likely to launch an iOS version of the app next year.
YouTube Create offers video editing tools including precision editing and trimming, automatic captioning, voiceover capabilities, access to a library of filters, effects, transitions, and royalty-free music with beat-sync technology. With all of these features, creators can easily produce their video without relying on complex editing software, that too from their mobile phones.
“Creators have been an incredible source of insight and feedback as we built this early version of YouTube Create, and we’ll continue to work with the creator community as we add new features and capabilities over time,” said the company. Incidentally, the idea of a separate video editing app for content creators is not new. Chinese short video app TikTok launched its video editing app called CutCut sometime back. And now, Google is following the trend with the new Create app for YouTube Shorts.
There’s so much more that goes into the before and after of a YouTube video This is where AI can assist creators with more efficient tools to help them come up with new ideas and reach a wider audience.
The future of creation on YouTube is bright as we start to see how AI-powered tools can help transform people’s dreams into reality, and we can’t wait to see what gets Made on YouTube next.
