Malala Yousafzai Stars in British Sitcom ‘We Are Lady Parts’

Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai has been in the news for the longest time. Be it her social work or her witty social media presence, netizens always seem to need more of her. This time, Malala is all set to make her acting debut with a cameo appearance in the British TV show We Are Lady Parts. She shared the first look from the show on X, featuring her on a horse in a cowboy hat and ever since the tweet has taken the internet by storm

About the Show

We Are Lady Parts, created by Nida Manzoor, follows the journey of an all-female Muslim punk rock band in England as they strive to succeed. The show has been praised for its unique representation of Muslim women as main characters, breaking away from stereotypical portrayals. Malala will appear in the second season, which includes a song titled Malala Made Me Do It, indicating her cameo connection to the storyline.

Malala’s Enthusiasm for the Show

In an exclusive interview with British Vogue, Malala expressed her excitement about being part of the show. She shared, “It was probably the first show I watched where you had Muslim characters who weren’t side characters – you had five of them as the leads. That stood out. It was entertaining. It was funny. I loved it.” Malala revealed that she binged the first season in one sitting and appreciated the diverse and relatable themes the show addresses, such as friendship, family dynamics, and following one’s passions.

Internet Reactions

The internet has been abuzz with reactions to Malala Yousafzai’s acting debut. While some social media users have celebrated her new venture, many have also criticised her, questioning her priorities and being silent on the Palestinian issues. Despite the mixed reactions, many have defended Malala Yousafzai, emphasising her right to explore new avenues and live her life on her own terms.

Comparisons to Beyoncé

Malala Yousafzai’s cowboy hat in her debut look has drawn comparisons to pop singer Beyoncé, who wore a similar costume on the cover of her latest album, Cowboy Carter. This comparison has added to the excitement surrounding Malala’s debut acting adventure.

Background

Malala Yousafzai, originally from Pakistan, is a renowned education rights activist who was shot by the Taliban in 2012 for her advocacy for girls’ education. After surviving the assassination attempt, she moved to England for further treatment and continued her activism from there.

In 2014, she became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize at the mere age of 17. Malala graduated from Oxford University in 2020 and has continued to be a prominent voice for education and women’s rights globally.

Malala Yousafzai’s appearance in We Are Lady Parts marks a new chapter in her multifaceted career. Her involvement in the show highlights her desire to support and participate in projects that challenge stereotypes and promote diverse narratives. As the second season premieres, audiences will be keen to see how Malala Yousafzai contributes to the acclaimed series.
