The latest episode featured Gaurav Taneja a.k.a. Flying Beast. Let’s dive right into that insightful conversation!
Gaurav shared details about his career as a pilot, particularly the peak of his earnings. As a pilot, his highest salary was around 6 lakh INR per month, but this amount required substantial flying hours. He explained that working as a captain in India, he could earn a considerable salary, but it also demanded long working hours like 100+ hours per month and firm commitment.
Despite the good pay, Gaurav felt that there was more to life than just earning money through a demanding job. He valued his time and preferred to spend it on things he was passionate about, like content creation and spending time with his family.
Gaurav started his YouTube channel in 2016, initially focusing on fitness with FitMuscle TV and then transitioned to vlogging as Flying Beast. Over time, his channel grew significantly, especially during the lockdown when he started sharing daily life content. The growth was exponential, with his subscriber count reaching millions. His audience started asking when would he pursue content full-time.
Gaurav said, “I used to say ke jab my YouTube income equalizes to my Aviation income, then I’ll switch full-time on YouTube.” Apart from YouTube & Aviation, he earns considerably from brand deals, and diverse investments that allowed him to consider leaving his job as a pilot.
Additionally, Gaurav is also involved in various businesses, including his protein brand Beast Life, and a food company Rosier Foods. His investments and entrepreneurial ventures have diversified his income streams, providing him with financial stability and the freedom to pursue his interests.
Discussing his current living situation, Gaurav mentioned that he lives in a rented bungalow. The rent is about INR 85,000 to 90,000 per month, which he finds affordable compared to cities like Bangalore or Mumbai. The bungalow has multiple bedrooms, a garden in the front and back, a garage, and a driveway.
However, Gaurav & his wife, Ritu Rathee have plans to build their own house soon, as their current landlord has asked them to vacate the premises within a year. They already have a plot of land in Gurgaon where they intend to construct their dream home.
Gaurav admitted, “I was very bad with investments till about a year and a half before. All my money was liquified. Pada rehta tha aise hi savings account mein, bahot jyada hota tha toh FD karva leta tha or gold le leta tha.” To which Sharan questioned what changed in his approach to picking investments thereafter. Gaurav playfully said, “Watching your video did!”
However, he realized the importance of making smarter financial decisions & started investing more strategically. He now has significant investments in his businesses and has also purchased a farm worth INR 10 crores in UP, which he plans to develop further. This change in approach has helped him secure his financial future and grow his wealth more effectively.
When asked at what income level he started feeling rich, Gaurav explained, “There is no income level that makes one feel rich.” Then, Sharan counter-questioned “Do you feel you are not rich now?” to which Gaurav smirked and said, “No, no, I’m rich now!” He stressed that it’s a human tendency to desire more, no matter how much they already have.
According to him, “Jo log bina paise ke bhi reh rahe hai, wo bhi khush hai. Aur jiska 100 crore ka net-worth hai wo khush nahi hai.” He argues that true happiness comes from within and isn’t tied to material wealth.
Gaurav believes that “money alone doesn’t bring happiness.” He believes that having a decent lifestyle, a roof over his head, and the ability to provide for his family is sufficient for happiness. Flying Beast advocates finding joy in simple things and not letting the pursuit of wealth overshadow the true essence of life.
While we were aware of Gaurav’s multifaceted personality as a vlogger, content creator, and entrepreneur, his take on wealth and how it is important to delve into diverse sectors is essential for a secure future has raised 10x respect for him.
