30th April marks the Birthday of cricket’s favourite ‘Hitman‘: the one and only Rohit Sharma! One of the world’s finest opening batters, Rohit celebrates his 37th birthday today. In the last couple of decades, the Indian skipper has established himself as a dependable batter who can single-handedly win games for his team.
In his 17-year-long run with cricket, Rohit Sharma has carved himself an illustrious career with numerous accolades to his name. Take a look at few of the biggest ones:
While millions of birthday wishes poured in for this fine cricketer, one of the cutest had to be that of Mumbai Indians. They made a whole social media campaign dedicated to Rohit Sharma – the MVP of IPL’s 5-time winning team. It is a 9-part series of comic posts called “Iconic Lines by Ro, Reimagined 😉“. They highlight some of Rohit’s famous and epic stump mic commentaries. Let’s take you through them:
The Series Of Comic Posts
The very first post of this series was a throwback to the #INDvSA, 2019 – 1st Test Match. We all remember Rohit yelling at Cheteshwar Pujara a.k.a. Pujji to run between the stumps. The MI admin said “Gym ka playlist isi se shuru hota hai humara,” and we agree. This is the kind of motivation we all need in our lives!
Jumping into the #INDvENG, 2024 – 2nd Test Match, don’t we all remember the iconic “Koi Bhi Garden Mein Ghumega Toh….” line from Rohit? “Ye kissa aaj kal ke bachche kabhi nahi bhoolenge 😂🙏” – 100 per cent!
The third post takes us into the #INDvAFG, 2024 – 3rd T20I Match. Rohit had already gotten out on zero in the last two matches and in the 3rd one Umpire Virendra a.k.a. Veeru gave him a leg bye when the ball clearly hit his bat. Mumbai Indians reimagined that situation as a banter between the iconic duo – Jay and Veeru:
𝑉𝑒𝑒𝑟𝑢: 𝐴𝑎𝑗 𝑚𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑒 𝑒𝑘 𝑏𝑎ℎ𝑜𝑡 𝑏𝑎𝑑𝑎 𝑓𝑎𝑖𝑠𝑙𝑎 𝑘𝑖𝑦𝑎 ℎ𝑎𝑖.
𝐽𝑎𝑦: 𝑀𝑎𝑖𝑛 𝑏𝑎𝑡𝑎𝑎𝑢 𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑎 𝑏𝑎ℎ𝑜𝑡 𝑏𝑎𝑑𝑎 𝑓𝑎𝑖𝑠𝑙𝑎? 𝑇ℎ𝑖𝑔ℎ 𝑝𝑎𝑑 𝑑𝑖𝑦𝑎 𝑡ℎ𝑎 𝑡𝑢𝑛𝑒 😠
#SAvIND, 2023-24: 2nd Test
Rohit Sharma holds the record for scoring 3 double centuries in ODI. If we were transported back to the era of record stores, this hitman’s records would be flying off the shelf for sure! “𝐻𝑎𝑎𝑛 𝑙𝑒𝑙𝑒-𝑙𝑒𝑙𝑒, 𝑘𝑦𝑎 𝑝𝑎𝑡𝑎 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑏𝑢𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑟 ℎ𝑜 𝑗𝑎𝑎𝑦𝑒” 💙
Dinesh Karthik seems to always be in good form during the World Cup years. In the #MIvRCB match this year, Rohit was seen pulling DK’s leg saying “World Cup Chal Raha Hai Iske Dimaag Mein” when he belted out fours after fours in the match.
During #INDvENG, 2024 Rohit Sharma was furious at Jadeja for bowling no balls. He told him to think of it as a T20 Match. Mumbai Indians picked that funny moment and equated it to the iconic “Pivot” moment in the widely loved sitcom, FRIENDS.
#INDvENG, 2024 | 2nd Test
The hitman is also the one man yelling his lungs out, trying to get his players to play right in order to clinch that victory. All his shouting is definitely worth it, though!
Yashaswi Jaiswal looks up to Ro. They made for a strong opening duo in the #INDvENG, 2024 – Test Match series. “The way he backed players throughout this journey, the way he talks, the way he bats. Whatever happens, he will be there to stand by you. I think it’s incredible to see that in your leader. I will keep learning from him,” said Jaiswal. “Only Rohit bhaiyya things 💙“
“𝐵𝑖𝑟𝑡ℎ𝑑𝑎𝑦 𝑝𝑒 𝑘𝑦𝑎 𝑏𝑜𝑙𝑎 𝑗𝑎𝑎𝑡𝑎 ℎ𝑎𝑖? 𝐻𝑎𝑝𝑝𝑦 𝑏𝑖𝑟𝑡ℎ𝑑𝑎𝑦!” This hilarious statement by Rohit Sharma about M S Dhoni at the ICC World Cup 2019 Press Conference made for the perfect build-up to his birthday! IYKYK!
And of course, the ultimate tribute to the Hitman. Taking inspiration from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara‘s song ‘Toh Zinda Ho Tum‘, Mumbai Indians created a version saying, “Toh Hitman Ho Tum” while highlighting all his stellar qualities.
How heartwarming and sweet was this social media campaign for Rohit Sharma by Mumbai Indians? We bet every fan of his loved it, just like we did! Happy Birthday, Hitman!
