With the launch of Netflix’s online store in collaboration with Shopify, the streaming platform has grabbed the opportunity to take over the e-commerce domain. On June 10, 2021, Netflix announced through its blog the initiation of its online store Netflix.shop. As per the Netflix blog’s headline, this is “A New Way for Fans to Connect With Their Favorite Stories.”
The online shop is a package of exclusive limited-edition high-quality apparels and lifestyle products, which are based regularly on the shows and Netflix as a brand. The month of June is going to be full of anime-based streetwear and action figures of ‘Yasuke’ and ‘Eden’. Along with these, there are also limited-edition apparel and decorative items inspired by ‘Lupin’ in association with the Musée du Louvre. Netflix also approached a group of emerging designers like Nathalie Nguyen, Kristopher Kites, and Jordan Bentley for a collection of anime-inspired collectibles which was introduced during the launch day. These merchandise are all carefully selected.
Not only these but there’s also more to come. Exclusive products of The Witcher, Money Heist, and Stranger Things are yet to be displayed. There will also be new Netflix logo-wear from BEAMS, the Japanese fashion house. Previously, the streaming platform-related merchandise was sold in Walmart and Target, as they are Netflix’s trusted partners.
Now, let’s get to know the mentioned designers. Nathalie Nguyen is an excellent designer, and her expertise lies in 3D modeling. She’s a sucker for anime and illustration and is known for digital fashion in cyberpunk themes. As stated on the website, her products “Eden-inspired kendama and Yasuke HRT clock” are available for pre-order.
Kristopher Kites is a Chicago-based designer and has worked in the RSVP Gallery. His genre is creating avant-garde pieces and is popular for “his oversized custom jewelry, from plastic Gucci link chains to pendants featuring cartoon characters like Jimmy Neutron and Goku encased in translucent cubes”, as stated on Netflix.shop. For the launch of anime-original pieces of ‘Yasuke’, Kites made four designs. Netflix also revealed that the “collection includes chains, pendants, and a bust fashioned in matte black (misted with blood spatter by Kristopher himself).” Also, being available in limited supply, “the symbols and swagger of your favorite 16th-century samurai are made wearable for the first (and perhaps only) time.”
Jordan Bentley founded Hypland at the tender age of 13, and the brand is the amalgamation of streetwear and anime. Based on his childhood hobby of silkscreening t-shirts, Hypland consisted of designs of Naruto, Inuyasha, and more iconic anime characters. For ‘Yasuke’, his design collection includes tie-dyed tees, graphic hoodies, and more.
So, these were the necessary information on the kind of design and collection Netflix.shop is having. Fans must be ecstatic with all this exclusive stuff. Netflix has come a long way from being a streaming platform to entering e-commerce, and it’s just getting better and better. Netflix is a brand in itself.
