Red Bull, the renowned Formula 1 team, has made a bold entry into the automobile market with the launch of its first-ever track-only car, the RB17. The RB17 hypercar was revealed at the Goodwood Festival on Friday with the Principle Christian Horner describing it as a compilation of the greatest hits by Adrian Newey. This limited-edition hybrid car is a testament to Red Bull’s innovative spirit and commitment to pushing boundaries.
The RB17 features a striking design, highlighted by a powerful 4.5-litre naturally aspirated V10 engine that revs up to 15,000rpm. It is equipped with a six-speed carbon fiber transmission, enhancing both performance and durability.
The car also includes active aerodynamic components in the front & rear wings, which obviously uses aerodynamics, making the RB17 a formidable competitor on the racetrack.
With a top speed exceeding 217mph, the RB17 is built for speed and agility. Its hybrid powertrain and advanced aerodynamics make it ideal for track enthusiasts seeking an unparalleled driving experience.
Designed with safety in mind, the RB17 meets Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) safety regulations. The LMH regulations include safety features such as improved crash structures, energy-absorbing materials, and elevated cockpit protection to protect drivers in case of accidents. Moreover, it also features a motorsport-spec ‘survival cell,’ providing drivers with added protection.
According to a previous update on the project, the RB17 “places Red Bull Advanced Technologies at the forefront of the hypercar revolution – showcasing F1 levels of performance combined with indulgent luxury”. After announcing his departure from Red Bull Racing in early 2025, Adrian Newey, CTO of Red Bull has redirected his focus toward completing the RB17 project.
Christian Horner, Principal of the Red Bull racing team said he anticipates the new car to be a “future classic“.
“We are excited to reveal the RB17 at Goodwood Festival of Speed, a project that is one of the most authentic and exciting that Red Bull Advanced Technologies has embarked upon to date,” Horner said.
“With 20 years of legacy in the world of F1 to draw from, and as a performance-centered organization, it only made sense for us to design our hypercar from the ground up. Combining technical innovation, achievement, and emotional appeal, the RB17 is a landmark car. I’m very proud of the team and am delighted to see it make its world debut. We expect the RB17 to be a future classic.”
Adrian Newey also added: “I had been mulling around the idea to take on the challenge to design our very own hypercar, from concept to delivery, for many years and it has been a magnificent project and journey.”
“For it to finally be the day we pull the covers off and see the birth of the RB17, is truly remarkable. The RB17 Hypercar embraces everything we stand for undeniable power, speed, and beauty. It is very adaptable in its abilities, and we made sure to design it as a two-seater so that the thrill of driving at F1 speeds can be enjoyed with a friend or partner.”
The RB17 is a limited-edition car, with only 50 units available for production in 2025. Each unit comes with a price tag of £5 million, which is roughly INR 53 crores, making it an exclusive offering for serious collectors and enthusiasts.
The Red Bull RB17 hypercar is anticipated to be a game-changer with its impressive features, exceptional performance, and commitment to safety. It sure is here to leave a lasting impact in the motorsports world. What do you think about this masterpiece? Let us know in the comments below!
