Sagar Kari: How Coffee, Travel & Music Built a Viral Curator

Some creators blow up with trends. Others build something timeless. Sagar Kari belongs to the latter. With over a decade of musical roots and an instinct for discovering underrated tracks, Sagar has carved out a niche as one of India’s most loved playlist curators and content creators. His reels and Spotify edits aren’t just recommendations; they’re moments that people live by.

From Stage to Playlists

Before the playlists, there was music. Sagar has been a musician for more than 12 years, a journey that sharpened his ear and deepened his connection with sound. But it was during the wave of new-age indie artists and Bollywood fusions that he noticed a gap: people needed a filter, someone to help them find songs worth remembering.

That’s when Sagar began sharing playlists. One of his earliest projects, Sunsets in India, unexpectedly went viral, hitting millions of views and rapidly boosting his following. “It was surreal to see my Spotify explode overnight. That’s when I realised people actually trust my taste,” he recalls.

A Style Built on Vibes

Unlike algorithm-heavy playlists, Sagar’s curation is rooted in mood and emotion. His playlists swing between indie pop, Bollywood, and nostalgia, always carrying a cinematic quality. “For me, music is like a personal soundtrack, whether it’s a night drive, rainy evening, or chai with friends,” he explains. This storytelling touch has made his playlists feel like companions rather than just collections.

Coffee: The Creative Switch

Behind the scenes, coffee powers his process. “I don’t usually have breakfast, but that post-lunch coffee? That’s when my brain clicks into creative mode,” Sagar laughs. Cafes often sneak into his reels, making coffee part of his brand identity as much as the music itself.

Goa, Mumbai & Inspiration

Travel remains another pillar of his journey. His hometown Goa fuels his playlists with raw, unhurried inspiration, while Mumbai offers the hustle and pace that sharpens his work ethic. “Both places are opposites, but I need both, Goa to reset, Mumbai to keep me going.”

Staying Consistent in a Fast World

In today’s creator economy, staying consistent is a challenge. “Trends change overnight. Algorithms shift. Some days, you don’t feel like posting. But I’ve learned to focus on building systems instead of waiting for motivation,” he shares. It’s this discipline that keeps his playlists fresh while maintaining authenticity.

Music as a Connector

Festivals like Diwali remind Sagar why he started. “Music connects people instantly, even without language. When families celebrate, dance, or just vibe together, that’s magic.” He plans to curate festive playlists this year mixing nostalgic Bollywood with upbeat indie tracks, keeping tradition alive while adding a modern twist.

Looking ahead, Sagar dreams of taking Indian music global. “There’s so much talent here, and I know our sound will resonate worldwide.”

Diya Bhansali

Hi, I’m Diya - a 23-year-old writer, chai girl, and full-time Gen-Z hustler from Jaipur (aka Gulabi Nagri) who’s slowly but surely making Mumbai happen. I started off as a freelance writer and somewhere along the way, fell headfirst into the world of creators, influencers, and the chaotic magic of the internet. Passion’s always been my north star - everything else just follows. If I’m not writing, I’m probably overthinking a caption, romanticising a trend, or sending memes at odd hours. You’ll find a little humour, a little heart, and a lot of scroll-stopping pop culture in everything I write.
