Stree-ming Now: Netflix & Amazon Prime Video celebrate the female artists in signature style

Wishing everyone in the world who identifies themselves as a woman, A VERY HAPPY WOMEN’S DAY. 8TH March is celebrated worldwide as International Women’s Day and having seen all the buzz from all around the world, let’s have a look at how OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video celebrate women.

About the Women’s Day

Before getting into the OTT world, let’s understand the importance and significance of this day. International Women’s Day has been observed since the early 1900s. This day is dedicated solely to all women around the world. It is very important to celebrate and raise awareness of women’s empowerment. There are also three colors for Women’s Day particularly, Purple, Green, and White. We should realize our part in bringing gender parity and hence we shouldn’t be complacent at all.

Theme for 2022

This year the goal is to create a gender-equal world. This Women’s Day it’s all about celebrating a woman’s success and raising awareness about Women’s Empowerment. The hashtag for this year is #ChooseToChallenge and #IWD2022.

Let’s have a look at how Amazon and Netflix celebrate Women this year

Amazon Prime Video’s Maitri: Female First Collective

It is an initiative that fosters meaningful conversations and collaborations between women in the entertainment realm. Netflix’s #HerKahaaniHaiZaruri

We do see a lot of female artists headlining various web series and movies. For Women’s Day, Netflix has come up with a new story Her Kahaani Hai Zaruri. Netflix India shared a video featuring a number of leading female artists like Madhuri Dixit, Shweta Tripathi, Kusha Kapila, Prajakta Koli and to name a few.

In this feature video, we could see female artists answering questions like who their favorite female characters are and so on. Netflix India wrote, “The era of streaming services has pushed out the formula in which women were used only as pieces of the puzzle to drive the narrative of the male lead. Today, women are no longer just a part of the story, but are the story.”

“Needless to say, this change in perspective has been steered by women running the ship. Directors, writers, showrunner, lyricists are bringing to life perspectives and stories that would’ve otherwise never seen the light of day. While we’ve come a long way, there is still so much room to grow. Diverse stories about women from across classes and identities must be told louder and more frequently. But with the democratization of content creation and the rise in the number of platforms, it’s safe to say, the future of story-telling looks so much brighter!” they added.
