Know How The Word. Magazine Honoured The Creative Industry With Its Iconic Inaugural Issue

We’re in a day and age where ‘creativity‘ is all around us. From fashion to cinema to digital media, creativity runs in every aspect of these industries. It’s what we consume in the form of content. And it takes an army to create this content – whether it’s putting together a fashion collection, creating a movie, or being an influencer.

There’s someone who has closely been a part of this creative wave and took notice of the many stars involved behind the scenes as well as in front of the lens who always put on a great show. And to honour this creative industry, famous journalist Nandini Bhalla launched her passion project, The Word. Magazine recently. It is an initiative to recognise the booming tribe of what they are calling the India Creative Inc. along with Colorbar.

About Nandini

Nandini Bhalla is a well-reputed Indian journalist who rose to fame after she started working as an editor for ‘Cosmopolitan India’ in 2010. She is also the former editor of ‘Bazaar India’ and ‘Brides Today’ and the launch editor for ‘Grazia‘ (at the tender age of 24). She had previously written for Indian Express, Channel Y, and Good Housekeeping. With 40 years in the industry, Nandini has created a legacy for herself.

The talented journalist has covered hard-hitting topics and also conducted interviews with a majority of well-known celebrities during her expansive tenure as an editor. She has also supervised major iconic cover shoots at these publishing houses. She shared an emotional post about her journey with Cosmopolitan India and Bazaar India and how it is time for the next chapter. After leaving Cosmo a few months ago, Nandini is now focusing on being the editor-in-chief of The Word. Magazine.

When speaking about her new project she said, “The Word Magazine marks a new chapter in the magazine and media industry, where powerful photography and content marries the pace and packaging of digital media. The result: elevated, ‘sticky’ content for social media and web…or as we like to call it, “A Digital Magazine, With a Heart of Print”. Intelligent features, in-depth stories, and popular culture come together to reestablish what it means to be a magazine today. Follow @thewordmagazine for a daily curation of fashion, luxury, beauty, culture, travel, and more…ideas that intrigue and inform. It’s The Word.

The Inaugural Issue

The Word. is a digital-first media brand, which marks a new chapter in the Indian publishing industry. For the inaugural issue, The Word. celebrates India’s creative spirit through what might be the world’s most ambitious cover series. Featuring 139 coverstars…powerhouses across 24 issues from the fields of art, film, fashion, food, music, content creation, and more, India Creative Inc. honours the talents leading the country’s creative order. The cover series follows a bold colour scheme too across each issue. From all black to white to red to orange and pink, the artists featured are dipped in these colours from head to toe.

Over the past few days, The Word. Magazine featured idea-shapers and game-changers on its covers. They were photographed against an endless table that represents not just the boundless power of creativity, but also the infinite potential of collaboration and inclusivity. “This is India Creative Inc., and everyone is invited to sit at the table,” said the post. The idea is to bring together fresh and impactful stories on fashion, beauty, luxury, art, and culture through this unique, hybrid digital magazine

Creators On The Cover

From the moment we wake up until we go to sleep, we consume “content” on the internet and on social media in abundant amounts. It’s these content creators who produce the engaging and entertaining content that we consume on a daily basis. Our way of learning, laughing, and interacting with the world around us is being shaped by content creators, including influencers, vloggers, and YouTubers.

These digital creators are responsible for shaping the future of digital media. And they have gotten a well-deserved place on The Word. Magazine’s covers alongside creative stalwarts from the industry. Watching the likes of Dolly Singh, Niharika NM, Diipa Büller-Khosla, and many more grace the covers is just an amazing moment for the whole community. Although a great step, this doesn’t come as a surprise since Nandini Bhalla has always been a crusader for the creator industry by always willing to give them a platform and wider recognition for their art.

Let’s take a look at some of these covers featuring content creators:

That’s our very own Kusha Kapila who started from her iDiva videos and is appearing in movies on the big screen now. It’s surreal to see a content creator amidst the likes of Actor Jim Sarbh (@jimsarbhforreal), Stylist & creative director Anaita Shroff Adajania (@anaitashroffadajania), Architect & designer Ashiesh Shah (@ashieshshah), and Jewellery designer, Suhani Parekh (@misho_designs) in this all-black first issue.

The comedy and makeup content creator Ankush Bahuguna (@ankushbahuguna) has featured alongside Comedian, writer, CEO of Motormouth Sumukhi Suresh (@sumukhisuresh), Actor & model Anjali Sivaraman (@anjalisivaraman), Photographer Sasha Jairam (@sashajairam), Artist & activist Durga Gawde (@durgagawdestudio), and Creative Advisor Ekta Rajani.

Here, we have our Barbies, our Gen-Z creators Kareema Barry (@kareemabarry) and Sakshi Shivdasani (@sakshishivdasani) who are featured with Stylist Divyak D’Souza (@divyakdsouza), Jewellery designer Nitya Arora (@nitya.arora), and Designer Shubhika Sharma (@shubhikasharma).

The Internet’s red-hot music and dance sensations spotted! We have Content creator Ruhee Dosani (@ruheedosani) with Music Producer, composer, & creator Yashraj Mukhate (@yashrajmukhate). They were photographed with Actor Rasika Dugal (@rasikadugal), Indie artist Tribemama Marykali (@tribemama_marykali), and Writer & director Sonam Nair (@chinxter).

A creative powerhouse in pink! Fashion Queen Komal Pandey (@komalpandeyofficial) featured along with Designer Tarun Tahiliani (@taruntahiliani), Director of Serendipity Arts Foundation and Festival Smriti Rajgarhia (@smriti.r), Product designer Namit Khanna (@namitkhanna.dzn) (@namahome.in), and Artist Pano (@lovefrompano).

And we come to the last cover, the 24th edition of India Creative Inc. by The Word. Magazine. This all-white issue features Content creator and Co-Founder of Masic Beauty Malvika Sitalni (@malvikasitlaniofficial), Actor and creator Jason Arland (@jason_arland), Model and actor Ayesha Kanga (@ayeshakanga), Ekaya Banaras CEO Palak Shah (@palakshah), Designer Krésha Bajaj (@kreshabajaj), and Model Nin Kala (@ninkala_).

We’ve got goosebumps just looking at these covers and the solid idea behind it of truly celebrating creativity and the people of the industry.
