WhatsApp to Launch Multi-Device Support and More! WhatsApp has confirmed that it will soon be entering beta testing (public beta) to test updates to its multi-device support that will allow its users to access their accounts from up to four linked devices. New features like “view once” and “disappearing mode” were also announced officially.
The information was revealed in an interview between WABetaInfo and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and WhatsApp head Will Cathcart. Will Cathcart also confirmed that the new multi device support update will perhaps make accessing WhatsApp on iPad a possibility.
In the interview Mark Zuckerberg also stated that WhatsApp will soon be adding a new “view once” feature, which will allow users to send messages that will disappear after being viewed. Furthermore a new “disappearing mode” will let users turn on disappearing messages across all chat threads. The “disappearing mode” feature seems to be an extension of its “disappearing messages” feature, which currently deletes messages after a set period of time.
With everything that is coming up, Zuckerberg has ensured everyone that the features will not compromise end-to-end encryption. “It’ll still be end-to-end encrypted…. It’s been a big technical challenge to get all your messages and content to sync properly across devices even when your phone battery dies, but we’ve solved this and we’re looking forward to getting it out soon!” he writes.
So far what is known, from Will Cathcart is that the multi-device support will be entering public beta “in the next month or two.” While the news about the launch of “view once” and “disappearing mode” features remains unknown.
