Zara has been the go-to store for bagging trendy fast-fashion drops ever since it launched. Be it a last-minute birthday dress, a blazer for a work event, or a comfortable pair of shoes, Zara is the luxe-for-less brand you need. The brand officially launched a makeup line, Zara Beauty, back in 2021 with new products being added to the category over the years. Last year the retailer launched a foundation that went viral on TikTok. After making a place in the beauty industry, Zara is now ready to set foot in the hair-care category with Zara Hair.
Holiday style is all about sparkle. Sequins, glitter, and gold make for the holiday season ensembles and looks. Zara’s holiday collection does justify this vision through a multitude of outfit options. Now, the brand is helping ensure your hair is holiday-ready – with Glitter! With a four-piece product collection dubbed “Glitter in Gold,” the range is formulated, curated, and designed by Guido Palau, a celebrity hairstylist who has worked with stars like Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington, as well as fashion labels like Ralph Lauren, Dior, and Marc Jacobs.
Launched ahead of Christmas on November 30, 2023, Zara and Palau’s inaugural gold-themed hair set features two styling products along with two accessories. The Zara Hair collection is not limited to the festive season. “This is the beginning of a whole rollout of products we’ll be doing, which drops next year,” said Guido. “This is a teaser, something we thought we’d do for the holidays as a fun gifting idea and getting into the holiday season.”
According to the brand, the products offer “a taste of what’s to come for Zara Hair.” Early next year, Zara plans to launch a line of key hair essentials – probably a spring collection. But for now, it’s all about the gold, and Guido can’t pick a favourite from the hair kit. “I love all of the products! To me, gold feels very glamorous,” he says. Created for extravagant party moments and elevated day-to-day styles alike, according to Palau, the new collection is “makeup for your hair.”
For instance, the non-brassy Gold Gel behaves a lot like a highlighter cream would, working to accentuate the hair’s natural shine. You can build it up for more of an effect, using it with or without its glittery counterpart. The result? The ultimate editorial styling kit for festive hair with an auric finish. The celebrity hairstylist is excited to see how people will use the gel and the spray. “The two products are so easy to use,” he shares. “If you want a really dramatic look, just layer each product! First, using the gold gel then spray liberally with the glitter.”
For some added inspiration, Zara roped in Kaia Gerber to tease the new Zara Hair releases, complete with an exciting campaign video with Guido Palau that hints at how much fun it is to play around with the products. The model has a long history with Palau. “Every time I’ve made a rash decision to cut my hair it’s been with you. And you’ve done it for me. And you’ve talked me out of really bad ones, too,” Kaia expressed her gratitude to Palau in the product teaser.
Together, the pair created an angelic shimmery glaze on the model’s tousled lengths, complete with overlapping grips and a sleek 90s side part. Talking about the collection, Guido says the possibilities are vast – ranging from adding a slight shine to your usual style to a layered bobby pin look for standout hair, perfect for big parties. You can heap them on for that ‘can’t-miss-it boldness’ or use them sparingly to enhance your natural features.
Guido Palau suggests starting with the construction of your actual hairstyle first. Whether it’s a messy ponytail or a slicked-back knot, you can create a slight highlight or ‘shimmer line’ in the hair, which would be the equivalent of some natural, dewy illuminator along the cheekbones. “…or you can layer the gel and spray to create a shiny, sparkly look. Layer to your heart’s content for a bold statement,” says the hairstylist.
Palau considers individuality to be the top trend of the season. It’s all about “embracing whichever hairstyle makes you feel most confident and comfortable, whether that is an ‘80s updo or a modern, futuristic look. Any look that makes you feel like yourself is always going to be on trend.” Zara’s collection of creativity-stoking hair products makes it easy to get expressive.
The y2k revival definitely rages on, right from our wardrobes to our beauty kits and now onto our hair as well. Frankly, we’re whole-heartedly here for it. Zara Hair was launched in the international markets yesterday, and will, hopefully, make its way to India in the coming months. The Glitter in Gold collection will be available for purchase as a set for $49.90 in stores and on zara.com. This four-piece amuse-bouche is a bold introduction to what lies ahead for Zara Hair in 2024 and we can’t wait to see more!
