‘90s Unforgettable Golden Hits in Honour of World Music Day

‘Fête de la Musique’ the French term for ‘World Music Day’ is celebrated on June 21 every year all around the world. It originated from Paris, France in 1982 in the hands of Maurice Fleuret, who became the director of music and dance at the French Ministry of Culture at the request of French Minister, Jack Lang. In honour of World Music Day, which was just yesterday, I’ve curated some of the most enjoyable ‘90s songs for you all which will take you on a trip to memory lane.

Here are the 10 Best ‘90s Unforgettable Golden Hits:

1. ‘To Brazil!’

Released in 1997 by Jive Records, ‘To Brazil!’ is from the Dutch Eurodance group, Vengaboys. It’s the second single from their second studio album ‘Up & Down – The Party Album!’ It incorporates some elements from the 1939 song ‘Aquarela do Brasil’ written and composed by Ary Barroso. All we need to hear is “Brazil” and we can’t stop swaying our bodies. Isn’t that right?

2. ‘Pehla Nasha’

‘Pehla Nasha’ in Udit Narayan and Sadhana Sargam’s voice belongs to the 1992 Bollywood film ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander’. Mansoor Khan was the music director, Jatin-Lalit produced the music and Majrooh Sultanpuri was the lyricist. The star cast included Aamir Khan, Pooja Bedi, Ayesha Jhulka, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Aditya Lakhia, and Deven Bhojani. Undoubtedly, this is one of the best romantic songs even till now. 

3. ‘Boom Boom Boom Boom’

Released as an October single in 1998 by Vengaboys, ‘Boom Boom Boom Boom’ was a top hit in many countries. Danski and Delmundo were the music producers. Party lovers anyone? This is for you!

4. ‘O O Jaane Jaana’

‘O O Jaane Jaana’ is from Salman Khan and Kajol’s movie ‘Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya’. Released in 1998, Jatin-Lalit were behind the music and Kamaal Khan was the singer. This song has such a vibe!

5. ‘Barbie Girl’

‘Barbie Girl’ is from the Danish-Norwegian dance-pop group, Aqua’s debut studio album ‘Aquarium.’ It was the third single from that particular album and was released in May 1997.  Søren Rasted, Claus NorreenRené Dif, and Lene Nystrøm were the lyricists of the track. This song came up from Rasted’s inspiration towards an exhibition on Kitsch culture held in Denmark that featured Barbie dolls. Johnny Jam, Delgado, Rasted, and Norreen were the producers.  

6. ‘Chand Chupa Badal Mein’

From Sanjay Leela’s Bhansali’s directed film ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ starring Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan, and Aishwariya Rai Bachchan, ‘Chand Chupa Badal Mein’ was released in 1999. It’s a romantic song in Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik’s voice under the banner of T-Series. Mehboob was behind the lyrics and Ismail Darbar was the music director. 

7. ‘Bailamos’

Enrique Iglesias’ song ‘Bailamos’ meaning ‘We Dance’ was released in 1999 as a  lead single from his fourth debut English album ‘Enrique’. Originally, its Spanish version was released first as a soundtrack to the film ‘Wild Wild West’ at Will Smith’s request. Written by Paul Barry and Mark Taylor, the track was produced by Barry and Brian Rawling

8. ‘Do Dil Mil Rahe Hain’

‘Do Dil Mil Rahe Hain’ is from Shahrukh Khan, Mahima Chaudhry, Apurva AgnihotriAlok Nath, and Amrish Puri’s film ‘Pardes.’ Released in 1997, Kumar Sanu was the singer, Nadeem-Sharavan were the composers, and Subhash Ghai was its director and producer. 

9. ‘I Want It That Way’

Backstreet Boys’ track ‘I Want It That Way’ was released in 1999. It was the lead single from their third studio album ‘Millenium’. Max Martin and Andreas Carlsson were behind the lyrics, and Martin and Kristian Lundin were the producers.

10. ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To’

‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To’ is from the 1994 film ‘1942: A Love Story’ sung by Kumar Sanu. The song featured Anil Kapoor and Manisha Koirala. The lyrics of the romantic song were written by Javed Akhtar, and Rahul Dev Burman was its music director.
