The social network startup Meta revealed that Ajit Mohan, Meta’s head, has left to seek a different opportunity. Mohan is joining hands with the rival social networking company Snap Inc.
In January 2019, Ajit Mohan began serving as the managing director of Facebook India. Over 200 million new users joined WhatsApp and Instagram in India during his visit to the country.
“Ajit has decided to step down from his role at Meta to pursue another opportunity outside of the company,” Nicola Mendelsohn, Vice President of Global Business Group at Meta, said in a statement.
“Over the last four years, he has played an important role in shaping and scaling our India operations so they can serve many millions of Indian businesses, partners, and people. We remain deeply committed to India and have a strong leadership team to carry on all our work and partnerships. We are grateful for Ajit’s leadership and contribution and wish him the very best for the future.” he said.
Mohan was earlier a key player in Hotstar’s development into one of India’s top video-streaming platforms prior to joining Meta. He worked with media firms all across the world while an employee at McKinsey & Company’s New York office.
