YouTube, the world’s largest video platform is acquiring an Indian e-commerce platform Simsim. The acquisition is to encourage people to shop from local businesses, thereby helping them grow.
Simsim is a made in India app and a new and fun way to shop online. On simsim people can shop for beauty, skincare, intimate care, personal hygiene, and wellness products. There are several videos to make it easy for people to find the best products suited to their needs. In these videos, people’s “favorite experts, influencers, and celebrities talk about their favorite products, how to use them“, and suggest which are the best products for the users to buy.
This acquisition is to encourage people to shop from local businesses, thereby helping them grow.
YouTube’s acquisition of Simsim aims at expanding the reach of small businesses in India. In a joint statement, Simsim co-founders, Amit Bagaria, Kunal Suri and Saurabh Vashishtha said, “We started Simsim with the mission of helping users across India shop online with ease, enabled through small sellers and brands showcasing and selling their products using the power of content by trusted influencers. Being a part of the YouTube and Google ecosystem furthers Simsim in its mission.”
Post acquisition the Simsim app will continue to work as it is.
