Twitter is debuting a new feature that will allow businesses on the platform to add a shopping section (or an online shop) on their profiles. The shopping section will be located at the top of the business user’s profile. Once the displayed product is tapped, a new link will open up in the Twitter app itself.
“People talk about products on Twitter everyday, so we’re excited about how this early exploration of the Shop Module can build a bridge between people talking about and discovering products on Twitter to actually purchasing them,” says Twitter. Currently the feature is only available for a limited number of brands, a couple of them are GameStop and Arden Cove.
With the pilot of the shopping section, Twitter has officially joined the league of other social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram etc.) adding new features to also function as an online shopping outlet. However the feature is currently limited only to iOS users using the app service in English.
