If you haven’t heard the words ‘Barbie‘ and ‘Oppenheimer‘ multiple times since the past few weeks, you’re definitely living under a rock! What happens to be one of the biggest blockbuster movie clashes at the box office in recent years, the Barbie Vs. Oppenheimer battle has finally reached it’s peak with both releasing in theatres today, 21st July, 2023. Just like the internet has been flooded with news, marketing campaigns and memes about the two most anticipated films, the verdict is finally in. The audience seems to be enjoying both the movies thoroughly basis what each one is offering.
Following the initial announcement of the movies, there was an assumption that Barbie would be attracting more of the female audiences given its pink Barbie-core aesthetic and Oppenheimer would make for serious cinema that would cater to Nolan lovers. But the weeks building up to the release really changed the narrative with an almost equal response towards both from audiences alike.
When a vibrant comedy about a Mattel doll come to life goes head-to-head with a brooding drama about the father of the atomic bomb, it is bound to create a massive buzz. And that it did. With Barbie’s extensive pink marketing campaign that left literally no stone unturned, the Warner Bros. production had everyone talking about the movie. Both the movies are on the complete opposite spectrums and that’s what makes the Barbenheimer craze all the more interesting. All the promotions ultimately led to both films finding their audience to such an extent that they wish to see both movies back-to-back.
Barbie
The Greta-Gerwig directed comedy-fantasy film follows Barbie (played by Margot Robbie) and her life in Barbie Land, a pink-tastic paradise. The story takes an interesting twist when Barbie winds up on a mysterious journey to the real world, with Ken and discovers the adversities women go through in the real world. Most viewers have termed the movie as sensational, praising the stellar performances by the lead actors Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. The feet-bopping soundtrack of the movie is an added hit.
Oppenheimer
Christopher Nolan has created a brilliantly unorthodox portrait of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist who oversaw the Manhattan Project that led to the creation of the atomic bomb. The lead character, portrayed by Cillian Murphy to perfection, the realness of the atomic bomb, the sheer cinematography and the Hans Zimmer magic just adds to the masterpiece. There can be no doubt on Nolan’s craft, the man’s a legendary filmmaker and Oppenheimer delivers on that levels or even surpasses it. Nolan loyalists and newer audiences all seem to be blown away by the film.
Both the films have been trending on Twitter and its raining positive reviews for them.
