Some stories do not need dramatic pauses or heightened emotion to make an impact. They simply unfold, and somewhere along the way, they stay with you. Munawar Faruqui’s recent conversation with Nikhil Taneja on Be A Man Yaar felt like that. The stand up comedian and Bigg Boss 17 winner spoke about his childhood with a kind of honesty that did not seek sympathy, but still managed to hit hard.

Munawar Explains How His Father’s Fear Came From Love

Speaking of his father, Munawar had mentioned that his father had been working as a driver for many years. In his youth, he had never been motivated to take lessons in driving skills. It seemed like a restriction imposed upon him back then, maybe even a bit unfair.

As Munawar grew older, he began to understand why his father had done so. In doing so, his father was actually protecting Munawar from leading a life that would impose itself upon him. The fear was that one day Munawar might end up being a driver by default if he learned to drive.

It was a simple decision, yet it had deeper meaning.

Munawar And His Childhood – Characterized By Responsibility

The life of Munawar went by fast. He began working when he was only nine years old, and by eleven, going to school was not something he could afford anymore. Working long hours was common, sometimes reaching up to 12 to 14 hours per day.

At such an early age, having to take up responsibility will definitely change a person. It makes one realize certain lessons much earlier than others can, especially the importance of hard work, the burden of provision, and the necessity of survival.

One does not have any room to make mistakes in a childhood such as this one. One matures even while they are still learning about themselves. In the midst of that journey, one begins to see the world differently.

Choosing A Different Path Despite It All

The defining feature of Munawar’s life is not only the hard knocks he has experienced but the route he has chosen to take regardless. His refusal to be part of alcohol and drug abuse was completely dictated by his experiences as a child.

Addiction has not been an abstract concept for him. It has been a concrete reality that had far-reaching impacts. Witnessing such things convinced him to take a different route in his life.

Munawar has managed to interpret his early experiences in his unique way. Challenging but essential to his development. It taught him how to avoid things that could have otherwise led him astray.

I’ve been passionately chronicling the worlds of entertainment and lifestyle for more than 10 years, which means I've spent roughly 3,650 days shuffling between drama and crippling deadlines (and usually, the deadlines win). There’s truly not a day I can imagine doing anything else. I just really love having an excuse to call reading celebrity/creator happenings "research."
