“Phineas And Ferb” Revival Confirmed: The Nostalgic Show Is Coming Back!

There’s a hundred and four days of summer vacation
And school comes along just to end it…

Do these lyrics ring a bell? Yes, it’s the Phineas and Ferb theme song!

Guess what? The iconic show is returning with a new revival series! The creators behind it revealed that they are treating it like a “Season 5” continuation of the original TV series! Phineas and Ferb’s run originally came to an end with the final episode airing in 2015. Since then it returned with a film, spin-offs, and much more.

The new series has been in the works for a release with Disney+ for some time now. and is set to come out soon. While there hasn’t been an update on its potential release window yet, the new ‘Phineas and Ferb‘ series will pick up with a brand new ‘Summer vacation.’

New Summer Incoming

The co-creators of the iconic show, Dan Povenmire and Jeff Marsh spoke about the new series during Disney Television Animation‘s presentation at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. They revealed that the show will be a 40-episode series, divided into 2 seasons. Season 5 will fast-forward a year from the events of the original TV series.

The creators further added that this ‘Phineas and Ferb‘ revival will begin with a new Summer through a special musical sequence. Those who attended the panel at the Annecy got to see an animatic version of the new musical number that kicks off the new Season.

Into The Creators’ Mindset

Povenmire and Marsh also explained that they were initially concerned about ideas for new episodes. But thanks to the energy of the new writer’s room – filled with both old and fresh writers – those concerns were alleviated quickly. They wish to make the new series feel as close to the older one as possible. Dan teased that there are seven episodes in particular that diehard fans will see as their favourites.

It has been the greatest pleasure of my career to see how an entire generation of kids and parents have embraced the characters and the humor of ‘Phineas and Ferb,’Dan Povenmire said. “I’m eagerly looking forward to diving back into the show for them and for a whole new generation.

Dan is renowned for his ability to create universally beloved stories and characters with both heart and humor,” said Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television. “We couldn’t be happier to continue our collaboration with him and bring back the iconic ‘Phineas and Ferb’ in a big way.”

Dan is a true mastermind, and his brilliant brand of storytelling has always been infused with a kind-spirited and optimistic sense of humor which continues to strike a perfect chord with audiences the world over,” said Meredith Roberts, executive vice president of animation at Disney Branded Television.

The OG Series

The series originally premiered on Disney Channel in 2007 and moved to Disney XD in 2012. It had four seasons between 2007 and 2015. As the name suggests, the show follows stepbrothers Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher during summer vacation. Every day, the boys undertake the construction of a grand project or embark on a spectacular adventure, to make the most of their time on vacation.

This annoys their controlling older sister, Candace, who frequently tries to expose the brothers’ schemes to their mother. Apart from the show, two films have also been produced – “Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension” and “Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe.”

How It Began

The creators Povenmire and Marsh conceived the characters while working together on animated programs The Simpsons and Rocko’s Modern Life in the 1990s. They were inspired by the summers of their own childhoods. The duo developed the series together and pitched it to networks for 16 years before successfully selling it to The Walt Disney Company.

Phineas and Ferb is one of Disney Channel’s most successful animated franchises. The series won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2010 for Outstanding Writing in Animation. It also won several Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation. If you want to check out the first four seasons of Phineas and Ferb ahead of the new season, you can now find it all streaming in full with Disney+.
