Facebook’s technology gave a twist to the iconic Ray-Ban frames launching the first-generation smart glasses, Ray-Ban Stories on September 9, 2021. With new ways to capture, share and listen, these glasses are built in partnership with Facebook and EssilorLuxottica. Incorporated with a camera, built-in speaker, and mic, you can “capture photos and video, share your adventures and listen to music or take phone calls — so you can stay present with friends, family and the world around you”, stated Facebook Newsroom.
Ray-Ban Stories:
Features:
As pointed out by Facebook Newsroom, “Ray-Ban Stories’ dual integrated 5MP cameras let you capture life’s moments as they happen from a unique first-person perspective. You can easily record the world as you see it, taking photos and up to 30-second videos using the capture button or hands-free with Facebook Assistant voice commands.”
Not only that, a “hard-wired capture LED lights up to let people nearby know when you’re taking a photo or video. Streamlined, open-ear speakers are built in, and Ray-Ban Stories’ three-microphone audio array delivers richer voice and sound transmission for calls and videos. Beamforming technology and a background noise suppression algorithm provide for an enhanced calling experience like you’d expect from dedicated headphones.”
Vishal Shah, VP, Head of Metaverse, Facebook Reality Labs expressed his excitement on Instagram, “So excited that #RayBanStories—our first-gen smart glasses built in partnership with EssilorLuxottica—is here at last! I love how we were able to pack a camera, built-in speakers and mic into such an iconic form factor. I’ve enjoyed having it with me and being able to easily capture moments with my family without needing to pull out my phone or a pair of headphones. I can’t wait to see how this unique capture POV will transform the way creators on Instagram and beyond tell their stories.”
Facebook View App:
Pairing with the new Facebook View app, Ray-Ban Stories brought a new world of seamless opportunities where you can share stories and memories on social media, with your online friends. With brand new exclusive post-capture enhancements that are built into the Facebook View app, you can also create unique content to put a special spin on your posts. From saving content to your phone’s camera roll to editing and sharing, you can do anything. As per Facebook Newsroom, “The Facebook View app on iOS and Android makes it easy to import, edit and share content captured on the smart glasses to apps on your phone: Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Twitter, TikTok, Snapchat and more.”
Privacy:
Ray-Ban Stories was created keeping privacy in mind, thus, there’s a whole set of built-in features and guidelines made for it. From being in the power of your data and content to encryption, two-factor authentication, and login alerts, there’s a lot more to it. Even the Capture LED light signals when you’re taking a photo or video so you won’t catch anyone near you off guard.
