We got into a candid conversation with Saloni Kukreja and asked her about the birth of ‘Indu Ice Cream‘ and where she got the inspiration to build it. She expresses, “I have loved ice cream for as long as I remember and one fine day I thought of starting a brand. It was the first thing I wanted to make and that’s how Indu Ice Cream began. Talking about the name, we wanted to go back to the roots of India, going back to the Indus Valley, which also means ‘cooling’ in Sanskrit, so it was just perfect!”
A Walk Through The Ice Cream-Making Process
“So first we make the ice cream base with all the ingredients going in, then we cook them and let it cool down. Further, the mix is refrigerated overnight, it’s a process that is known as Maturing which is extremely important before we churn it and blast breeze it for crystallized texture,” says Kukreja.
How do you come up with new flavours and recipes? Which is your favourite flavour?
“That’s a tough one! Although I like the Malai, it’s been one of my favourite flavours since childhood. Also, I like to pair it with fresh fruits like a ‘Malai fresh fruit combo.’ About the flavours, since it’s part of vibrant India, I like to explore them all.”

Knowing that the ice cream industry is exhausted with well-established brands and more, we thought of asking this to which she responded, “We make small-batch ice creams inspired by Indian roots. All our flavours have an Indian touch to them. They are nostalgic flavours with a modern twist to it.”
Does being a content creator help market Indu Ice Cream better?
Social media has become so crucial that skipping it in the morning feels weirder than forgetting to brush your teeth and have breakfast! However, to expand her business, Saloni remarks, “For sure it does. It impacts sales and reach stats. I feel like it would’ve been way more difficult if I didn’t have the reach I do. But also that said, I’ve spent pretty much 8 years in the industry so that’s a plus point.”
