In a remarkable endeavour to safeguard one of India’s most iconic and endangered species, The TOI started the Saving Our Stripes campaign that has emerged as a rallying cry for tiger conservation. With the release of a captivating Tiger Anthem, the campaign has gained momentum, aiming to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Project Tiger while raising awareness about the urgent need to protect these majestic creatures from the brink of extinction.
The Tiger film serves as a poignant reminder of the crucial role tigers play in maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity. Through breathtaking visuals, it showcases the awe-inspiring beauty of tigers in their natural habitats while shedding light on the grave challenges they face to survive in a rapidly changing world. This cinematic masterpiece not only captures the essence of these regal beasts but also emphasises the significance of preserving our national treasures – our forests and biodiversity – for future generations.
The thought-provoking anthem in The Tiger Film strikes a chord because it comes from the perspective of a little cub’s perspective as it spends its day in a fun way while walking alongside its mother. The cub is shown in its natural habitat, living the life it lives. The large and gorgeous cats are a treat to the eyes as shown in the short video.
The anthem for The Tiger Film is composed by the renowned Shantanu Moitra and the lyrics are written by Tanveer Ghazi. The three and a half minute short video was created by Subbiah Nallamuthu.
Kaustuv Chatterjee, the director of TOI, expressed his hope that the storytelling approach of the campaign, including the quizzes and digital campaigns as well as the mesmerising Tiger film, will resonate with audiences and evoke a sense of responsibility towards tiger conservation. By connecting with people on an emotional level, the campaign aims to drive greater consciousness about the importance of protecting tigers and the ecosystems they inhabit.
The Saving Our Stripes campaign is a multi-faceted initiative that spans across TOI’s print and digital platforms. It includes thought-provoking editorials, engaging contests, and even a special Tiger Anthem crafted by world-famous artists. This comprehensive approach aims to reach a wide audience and foster a collective sense of ownership in the mission to save our regal Tigers.
Among the highlights of the campaign were the contests that encouraged active participation from the public. By inviting ideas and solutions to protect tigers and their habitats, the campaign tapped into the collective wisdom of the nation, fostering a sense of camaraderie in the fight to secure the future of these magnificent creatures.
Project Tiger, launched five decades ago by then Honourable Prime Minister Smt Indira Gandhi, remains a centrally funded initiative. It initially encompassed nine reserves, and its impact has been nothing short of remarkable. The initiative has now expanded to include 53 tiger reserves, involving an area of 75,000 sq. km. As a testament to India’s dedication to tiger conservation, the country now houses an impressive 3,167 tigers, making up 75 percent of the global wild tiger population.
The campaign’s efforts received a notable endorsement from none other than the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi. Through his official Twitter handle, he shared the Tiger Anthem, urging citizens across the country to join hands in this noble mission to safeguard these extraordinary creatures and preserve India’s rich natural heritage.
In conclusion, the Saving Our Stripes campaign by The Times of India stands as a powerful testament to the collective responsibility we all share in safeguarding the future of tigers and their habitats. Through powerful storytelling and engaging initiatives, the campaign has succeeded in garnering public support and fostering a deeper appreciation for these magnificent animals. As we commemorate the 50 years of Project Tiger, let us unite in our resolve to protect these striped guardians and secure a brighter future for India’s wildlife and ecosystems. The time to act is now, and together, we can ensure that our tigers continue to roam our forests for generations to come.
